Are altar candles fueled by liquid oil licit?

May a parish use liquid oil for the altar candles? The altar candles are not wax candles. How grave an abuse is it if not licit?
 
Hi,

It is not an abuse at all. In the time of Our Lord it was quite common a practice as in the case of the wise virgins who brought extra oil for their lamps. They didn’t bring candles.
