Are Americans less-evolved?

Our only difference is we threw out kings and forbid nobility to hold office in our government. The rest of the world seems to resent that, I think.
Oh really? I don’t recall George Bush renoucning his billion dollar family fortune when he took office.

I think it’s more the high handed bullying that the rest of the world resent than some symbollic gesture to replace nobility with pseudo nobility.

Now that China is overtaking the West in the fast lane, you’ll soon know exactly why the world resents the USA.

And, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with our technology terrorizing terrorists.
It makes me feel sick, depressed and ashamed that you and I are members of the same species… That smug complacency is nothing less than purely distilled evil…

The sad thing is that I’m an atheist, and despite my sharp tongue I’m actually quite a gentle person. I don’t want to kill anyone. You preach a religion of love and tolerance. You don’t even know the meaning. They’re just vestigial words for feelings that you’ve never felt.

Here’s some of your terrorists: Do you feel anything when you look at these photographs? Do you feel pity, horror, outrage as I do? Do you have a heart that’s open to any kind of compassionate influence at all?

Seen enough?

Neither our Constitution, nor common sense, requires any president to renounce any wealth.

There you go, again, with ad hominum attacks on the USofA instead of discussing how evolved we are.

Those are children that just as easily may have been so injured by IEDs and suicide bombers. Can’t you see that?

Those are children that just as easily may have been so injured by IEDs and suicide bombers. Can’t you see that?
Even if that were true, two things:
  1. They have the same injuries you’d expect to find among people who have been bombed with those devices that you approve of.
  2. Before you destroyed the Iraqi infrastructure to privatize THEIR oil, there were no insurgents and suicide bombers.
Just because in the cases of the photos above there’s an outside chance that you didn’t have your finger on the button that time, that did that does not mean you aren’t responsible. Many people were killed privatizing Iraqi oil to American corporations, and many more have killed since as a result of the destruction of the Iraqi infrastructure.

Can’t you find it in your heart to see that people outside the USA have the right to life and liberty? Liberty is described by one of your countrymen as the soul’s right to breathe. Why should that only apply to the six percent of the World population that live in the USA? In fact it doesn’t even apply to most of them, only to the ones who have money.

Now, will you answer my question.

Can’t you find it in your heart to have some compassion, some humility and some love for these people who’s lives your weapons have destroyed?

Here’s a short video I made up from stock footage that will explain what I’m referring to…

youtube.com/watch?v=lLrmEh5VRXM

America is thus far the only country to actually use these weapons. Something tells me that, man or God, Jesus of Nazareth is not the kind of man who would approve.
Ahh, okay, I understand what you meant now. Unfortunately I still don’t see how this fits into the discussion. What about my post(s) indicated to you that I was proud of nuclear weapons? Even though it is way off topic, I can tell you (briefly) that I am not proud of them, except for the good they have done in convincing some that creating ever greater WMD is not the best course of action for the human race.
Something tells me that, man or God, Jesus of Nazareth is not the kind of man who would approve.
Jesus is either God (as He said He is) or a very bad man, he cannot simply be a good teacher. Lord, liar, or lunatic – there are no other options.
I dismissed no one, I merely pointed out that he was engaged in mendacity.
No, I think everyone can see that he wasn’t lying or even trying to.
Oh really? I don’t recall George Bush renoucning his billion dollar family fortune when he took office.
Actually, the president does in a sense. His assests are frozen during his term in office. Are you saying that a person becoming president should end his term with no money at all?
Can’t you find it in your heart to have some compassion, some humility and some love for these people who’s lives your weapons have destroyed?
What makes you think any of us don’t? I think you may be lashing out at a stereotype, one that likely doesn’t apply to anyone on this forum (regardless of religious beliefs).

It seems like there may be something else bothering you. Care to share what it is?

I think there’s been a misunderstanding here Sir. My post was aimed directly at DonSnow, not at yourself…

What’s bothering me? Human beings being so fervently eager to kill one another basically. Like I said, despite my sharp tongue, I have a fairly gentle soul, I think we’re all brothers and sisters, or at least we ought to be. I don’t think we should be getting rich at the expense of everyone else, even if it means having to flatten their countries.

I find the almost gleeful attitude that a lot of people in the Western World take to the idea that WMD should be used by Western powers without sparing a thought for the innocent people caught in the crossfire really quite demoralizing.

Yes.
But, that’s not the OP, and I’m getting tired of your picking on America.

Yes.
But, that’s not the OP, and I’m getting tired of your picking on America.
My girlfriend whom I love very much is American, from Michigan… She is a gentle and compassionate person. She does not approve of killing, she does not approve of going into Iraq to steal their wealth and she does not approve of unbridled capitalism leaving people to die. She is a Christian and worships God and attends faith meetings.

I am not picking on America, I am picking on you. I am picking on your interpretation of what America should be.

Do you think God will be pleased that we’re murdering the unborn and the elderly to ‘save Gaia?’
I don’t worship any Gods or Goddesses so that isn’t in any way relevant to me, but it is to you.

Do you think it will please God that we are abusing his planet?
I will pray for your conversion.
Save it.

It’s not just depleting resources, it’s the quality as well. The earth has a closed water system, we’re not losing water, we’re losing clean, unpolluted water.

And as humans population expands, it’s always at the expense of non-human animals, in the way of extinction.

Lack of biodiversity is not a good thing. It’s like sawing off the limb you’re sitting on.
Again:

How do you think God likes the murder of the unborn and elderly to ‘make room for the right people to worship Gaia?’

Moonstruck:

Everybody worships something. You worship the planet, you worship yourself, you worship a rock that you found on the beach, I have no idea.

Don’t kid yourself. Atheism is as fervent a religion as any.

Good for your girl friend.

I, among millions of Americans, am also compassionate and against killing, believe it or not.

I’m not here to discuss Iraq. Which is very off topic.

I also am a Christian and worship God. A temporary condition has kept me out of church for now, but that doesn’t stop me from exercising the other participation in the Christian faith.

Any American’s, including mine, interpretation of what America should be will always be more appropriate than your, or any other non-American’s interpretation of what we should be.

Let’s keep this focused on the present America in the OP. Also, you would do well to stop picking on me.

That kind of unilateralism is why your country is such a bane of the lives of the rest of the world.
Also, you would do well to stop picking on me.
It’s nothing personal, I just abhor flagrant hypocrisy. Are we not all supposed to be God’s children, regardless of where we live in relation to an imaginary border someone drew on a map?

If by evolved we mean survival of the “species,” then are American’s less-evolved than other nations?

Procreation here is less than many other, particularly 3rd world countries. We contracept and even advertise methods in magazines, radio, etc… We abort. Many American men look for consequence-free sex. Porn doesn’t reproduce. Women commit to professional work far more than raising children than in decades past. The Europeans could fall under this umbrella too with the Pope a few years ago urging them to reproduce more.
If you put it that way. then the answer might be yes. Or maybe Americans are “de-evolving”. Having large families, Where children were the centre of the universe, so to speak. Where their welfare and safety came before the parents. Then maintaining that strong family bond , is what helped humans survive. Developing that strong family bond, is probably the sole reason we are here today. Now we have parents aborting or abandoning their kids for no other reason than they don’t suit their lifestyle. Western society is destroying probably the one re deeming feature about us humans. I think once that family bond is destroyed through out a society. Then that society will also crumble soon after.

You leave me with the unpleasant taste in my mouth that you’ve never read a single word on Evolution.

Given that there are no longer any geographical barriers that would isolate the US population from the rest of the world, Americans are, and will be for the foreseable future, a part of the same species as other human beings around the globe.

The simple answer to the simple question in the OP is that Americans can be no less nor no more evolved than any other human being.

Incidentally, as a representative of a religion that claims to be of peace and love, I shouldn’t be too proud of the technological terrors that you’ve invented.
You have made your allegiances abundantly clear.

But I fear God more than Man and his poisonous ideas of ‘enlightenment.’ May He have mercy on all those who seek self-worship.

Since her festering enemies serve a different master: GOD BLESS AMERICA.

That kind of unilateralism is why your country is such a bane of the lives of the rest of the world.
I think it’s not quite that simple. First, our rights and liberties cause other governments to placate their populations, who don’t have those rights and liberties, by teaching them to hate us.
Second, as long as we stood by Israel the world hated us because it hates Jews.
Third, citizens of other countries are jealous of the rights and liberties we have in America and act out their jealousy different ways.
Fourth, our sovereignty (the best word for what your term ‘unilateralism’) arouse citizens and governments of other countries who have surrendered their sovereignty, because they look so foolish without their sovereignty.
Finally, then and only then does America have faults.
It’s nothing personal, I just abhor flagrant hypocrisy. Are we not all supposed to be God’s children, regardless of where we live in relation to an imaginary border someone drew on a map?
We are all God’s creatures. Only those who love God and each other are His children.
One reason I’ve been so blunt to you was to avoid hypocrisy.

Third, citizens of other countries are jealous of the rights and liberties we have in America and act out their jealousy different ways.
Other countries aren’t jealous of you, they’re terrified of you, specifically of your tyrannical use of the awesome power of the US military.

Your manufacturing industry has been sold down the river, half of your Federal is owned by China, you have no public sector, no safety net if you become ill or fall on bad luck, mushrooming homeless figures…

It puzzles me exactly why you think there is anything in the USA to aspire to or be jealous of, particularly for someone devoutly religious.
Fourth, our sovereignty (the best word for what your term ‘unilateralism’) arouse citizens and governments of other countries who have surrendered their sovereignty, because they look so foolish without their sovereignty.
So if Britain decided it was going to trade with Iran for oil in Euros instead of dollars, there wouldn’t be a problem?
We are all God’s creatures. Only those who love God and each other are His children.
One reason I’ve been so blunt to you was to avoid hypocrisy.
Well, as one of God’s creatures to another, if I were you I’d do a lot more loving and a lot less looking down your nose, or worse, down the barrel of a targeting reticle, at everyone else.

Since her festering enemies serve a different master: GOD BLESS AMERICA.
So it comes down to that does it?

I would rather spend eternity in hell than spend one second in heaven with the likes of you, my vicious, thuggish friend.

Other countries aren’t jealous of you, they’re terrified of you, specifically of your tyrannical use of the awesome power of the US military.
That’s balderdash.
Your manufacturing industry has been sold down the river, half of your Federal is owned by China, you have no public sector, no safety net if you become ill or fall on bad luck, mushrooming homeless figures…
We have God, the devil’s efforts to block God from Americans’ lives notwithstanding.
It puzzles me exactly why you think there is anything in the USA to aspire to or be jealous of, particularly for someone devoutly religious.
Some people value freedom, which is fast fading here, above other things.
So if Britain decided it was going to trade with Iran for oil in Euros instead of dollars, there wouldn’t be a problem?
Not for me. And, as antiAmerican as this present Administration talks, it might not be problematic for them, either.
Well, as one of God’s creatures to another, if I were you I’d do a lot more loving and a lot less looking down your nose, or worse, down the barrel of a targeting reticle, at everyone else.
Well, I’m sure that I love America more than you do.
When it comes to looking down noses, aren’t you the pot calling the kettle black?
I only target animals that are good to eat. And, I prefer open sights to scopes and such… that reminds me…thanks for reminding me, there’s an item I want to add to my arsenal.😛
