kamz:
try explaining that to the Baptists, If I tell them that as a Catholic I’m Baptized and I’m a christian they will say too bad we still say your not christian or if you are the Catholic church is not, that is what I was having a difficult time with on this baptist message board I stumbled upon, someone started a poll asking if catholics were really christian or not and many said nope Catholics are not or the Catholic church is not and weather we are baptized or not made no difference whatsoever to them.
Just what I was reading
Well… after you manage to define the 47 Heinz varieties of Baptists… you will find that there are some that one finds it difficult to accept as being Christian.
Even with a Baptism that we accept, it is not the form that matters but what is in the heart. If these people do not consider us as their Christian brothers and sisters then perhaps the problem is internal.
What I mean is that Jesus said that there are two commandments: (1) Love God and (2) Love thy neighbour. That means if a person does not show love towards a neighbour through acceptance that person’s faith, and by constant ridicule and other demeaning actions, then one has to ask… is he/she really a follower of Christ?
To be Christian means to do as Jesus said: “pick up your Cross and follow me”.
I can point to one very Christian gentleman on this board. His name is EdwinG. He does not understand the Catholic faith, and I hope that in time we can continue to enlighten him. He is my Christian brother.
At the same time I can point to an extraordinary experience on another list where the adversary was preaching something that goes against the Scripture. He was a Puritan. It ended up 4 Catholics plus 4 Protestant Christians against this one man. We tried to enlighten him but he would not listen to any other voice than his own. He slandered the Catholic Church. He finally made the decision to leave the list, and perhaps we felt that we had failed to get our message through. However, I am not sure if that is the case. What is so extraordinary is that we have all been drawn together, united in Christ as we worked to try and point out the error that this man was making.
In other words if you show love to others, then that love will be returned. You cannot imagine how much I appreciated the support of those Protestants whilst trying to set this person straight about God’s real message of salvation.
