Are Catholic confessions a threat to US National Security and Intelligence? Since many who work in this area work are of the Catholic faith.
 
Dear Blue,

Hardly! First of all, Catholics are only obliged to tell the priest their mortal (serious) sins. They are not obliged to tell the priest all their secrets. But even if they did, the priest is obliged under threat of excommunication from the Church from divulging ANYTHING he has heard in Confession. Priests have been arrested and even put to death for not breaking the seal of Confession.

Further, a devout Catholic who’s life is totally centered in Christ is the best remedy for any danger to our nation’s security.
