Are Catholics Christian?

I asked this question because over the years here at CAF, I have read numerous posts by non-Catholic Christians, who appear to have a condescending attitude toward Catholics and believe that they are more “Christian” than Catholics. In some cases, I have read posts where Protestant, non-Catholic Christians wrongly assume that Catholics are not Christian or that Catholics are involved in religious practices which are not Christian.

So, in your opinion, are Catholics Christian? Maybe we can clear up some Catholic myths here.

I think it’s unlikely you’ll clear up any myths, because I think for the most part the non-Catholics who are posting that way are defining “Christian” in ways that exclude Catholics.😦
 
You could ask are Baptist’s christians…Here’s the way I look at it…There are believers in all the churches that lift up Jesus…Just like there are CINO’s there also “christians in name only”…Face it the wheat and tares are together in all our churches…Jesus knows who are His and when the trump sounds they along with those who died in Christ will together rise to meet Him in the clouds…The scary place to be is a pew warmer for the lukewarm will be spewed out…Just like having some Catholic coworkers years ago were some wild partiers…The said they received Jesus every Sunday and had confession and everything was ok… Then Monday back to wild living for the rest of the week…As a newer believer I could never understand that…But then non Catholics do that also…
 
Yes Yes and Yes. When one realizes the fullness of truth with in the one Catholic Church one can only say YES!!!
 
Catholics are not just Christians, they are the original Christians. That’s why I will become Catholic and not Protestant.

Interesting question…

Both Christian and Catholic were coined out of Antioch about the exact time.

Igantius wrote of being Catholic and said where the Catholic Church is so is God.

The Nicene Creed and others all speak of a true Christian as being Catholic.

What is so interesting is that ignorance is like a wild fire so that many are engulfed in it’s destructive flames believing lies to be truth and truth to be lies so that many think Catholic is not Christian.

Most definitely YES. I remember once, years ago when my younger brother and I were visiting a relative of ours in Fresno, CA (who died about a year and a half ago :crossrc:]), he made a very similar comment. Needless to say, she quickly, and politely, corrected him. 😦 :o

First; please explain if you don’t mind. If Catholics hold to what the Church teaches are they Christian?

Secondly; this is why I like to ask if the Catholic Church is Christian instead of are Catholics Christian. That way you avoid the whole, “there are some who are Christian in the Catholic Church and some who are not, like there are some who are Christian in the Baptist church and some who are not.” What a person could very well mean by a statement like this is that there may be Christians within the Catholic Church, but it is in spite of their the Catholic Church. If you ask whether or not the Catholic Church is Christian, this is all avoided.
