I’m a Mormon and my church encourages all members to study the scriptures everyday, so my question is: Are Catholics encouraged to study the Bible daily? If not, what are you encouraged to do regarding the scriptures? I’m clueless, if you guys could include links to your explanations, I’d appreciate it.

Other than the Bible, do you guys also have other official readings in the church that you read?

Yes there are Bible Study groups in the Catholic Church too. And because of our rich tradition, there are other readings: from the Apostolic Fathers to books by the Doctors of the Church to Lives of the Saints among others.

Yep. And because there’s a Mass happening somewhere every day, we’re encouraged to attend more than just Sunday, where we’ll hear (usually) from an Old Testament prophet, a letter from the New Testament, a gospel reading, and several psalms.

Catechism of the Catholic Church:

In Sacred Scripture, the Church constantly finds her nourishment and her strength, for she welcomes it not as a human word, “but as what it really is, the word of God”.67 “In the sacred books, the Father who is in heaven comes lovingly to meet his children, and talks with them.”

The inspired books teach the truth. "Since therefore all that the inspired authors or sacred writers affirm should be regarded as affirmed by the Holy Spirit, we must acknowledge that the books of Scripture firmly, faithfully, and without error teach that truth which God, for the sake of our salvation, wished to see confided to the Sacred Scriptures."72

Still, the Christian faith is not a “religion of the book.” Christianity is the religion of the “Word” of God, a word which is “not a written and mute word, but the Word is incarnate and living”.73 If the Scriptures are not to remain a dead letter, Christ, the eternal Word of the living God, must, through the Holy Spirit, “open [our] minds to understand the Scriptures.”

The Church "forcefully and specifically exhorts all the Christian faithful. . . to learn the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ, by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures. Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ

There is also the Liturgy of the Hours which is daily prayer (7 separate hours [prayer sessions] over the course of the day). It is largely based on the Psalms, but also contains other readings. It lends itself quite well to bible study. There are always new revelations.

There are also the daily readings related to mass. Excellent sources for study as well.

The Catholic Church consumes much of the bible in three year cycles. Every day there are bible readings from the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the Gospels. Additional study of the bible, catechism, and spiritual reading are strongly encouraged.

I think most Catholics incorporate a daily prayer regimen that may consist of many different types of prayer.

There is also the Divine Office which is broken down into prayer 7 times daily. It primarily focuses on reading several psalms and some other bible passages and writings from Saints and the Doctors of the Church.

The people who frequent sites like this are probably doing most or all of these things on a daily basis or at least a weekly basis.

Where can I find those sources? What are some Catholic resources that I can research? Although I’m not Catholic, I have a deep respect and interest in your church. I’ve been watching YouTube videos from a Catholic priest, so those have been helpful. What do you mean by “new revelations”? Do you guys believe that God continues to speak with people (like mine does) with new revelations? What do you exactly mean by that?

I believe the Cathecism would be a good start.
As to the revelations, many individuals throughout the story of the Church have received Private Revelations from God and have developed new devotions. Catholics are not required do believe in the private revelations, but the Church highly encourage many of them. I’m specially fond of the Rosary and the Apparition of Our Lady in Fátima.

It’s a compilation of Q&A about the Catholic Faith. It also has a brief explanation about the 10 commandments, the Lord’s Prayer and the Creed.

Probably most of them. If you have any questions that are not answered in the Cathecism, you can talk with a Catholic Priest and I’m sure he will be happy to answer you.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church should answer questions you may have. You can also ask questions on the forum in the Apologetics or Liturgy and Sacraments section.

Well, here is a good website that has all the readings daily: http://universalis.com

There are also free apps for your phone or tablet such as iBreviary or Laudate. There is also a paid app for universalis.
