I don’t know what’s legalistic and mechanical about demonstrating to a child how to confess properly.
I can envision shame being a very great thing, particularly in that time, for a child, and so a child so ashamed of his sins that he holds back would be a common scenario. This cartoon serves, to me, as a very clear warning about what could happen if I hold back. And trust me, I’ve been tempted, even as an adult.
