Are communion services okay when mass is not available on weekdays?

My Catholic Church offers communion services at one church in this trio of churches in this one parish. We have one priest, one assistant pastor and a sister who alternates with the priests to give them a day off. Why would I ever go to a communion service if there is a mass near by? Now this sister would like me to be a reader in this communion service. Should I even do that?
