Are curses real and should faithful catholics fear them?

My parents are in catholic charismatic movement at the moment and are bringing a lot of “new” ideas.
Priests and laymen in that movement (at least in places where my parents go) are talking a lot about curses especially generational curses that can affect us.
For example if my grandgrandgrandgrandfather(yes that far away, meaning there is NO WAY I could have met him) was a murdurer or occultist I will suffer myself for his sins and I have to “clean” my family tree.
Also stories about how powerful are our own words and how we can curse someone if not careful.

Now I would like to know official stance of the CC on the issues because only proofs they give me are from protestant literature (Derek Prince for example),also on their videos you can see priests commanding “in the name Jesus” to expel daemons instantly.
Is that even possible?

Are these gatherings occurring at a parish in good standing in the Diocese?

Frequent prayers to St. Michael the Archangel ought to take care of any of that which might be a legitimate threat. I have pretty strong doubts that any of it is real in the first place though.

Yes, they are real, but wearing a blessed Rosary, blessed Miraculous Medal and or a blessed Medal of St. Benedict should protect you from any who would wish to curse you. A generational curse–if a family has one–should know about it by now if it goes as far back as your example goes, certainly. As for accidentally cursing someone, I have never heard of that before and find the concept to be utterly ridiculous.

They’ve proved that this is a modern, Protestant (probably fringe) idea by not being able to come up with Catholic sources. Unlikely to be anything official written against it from a Catholic point of view.

Generational curses & blessings are mentioned in the OT, but not, I think (please correct me if I’m wrong), in the NT.

I know of one New Testament passage in which it is mentioned:
John 9:1-3 New American Bible (Revised Edition)

As he passed by he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “Neither he nor his parents sinned; it is so that the works of God might be made visible through him.”

yeah, this definitely sounds weird.
they are in local church, held by missionaries of saint Bosco, ( “Salezijanci” is Croatian name for them)

also there are tounges and “slain in spirit” stuff, but the pope did give them approval on that stadium in Rome 🤷

Look to see if this church is listed on the parish list from your Diocese. It’s available online. That’s where I would start.
There is such a thing as the American Catholic church which is NOT a good church to attend. I think you need to do some research.

If you believe in curses or have them drummed into your head, then they can become real to you and you may also act upon them or find disquiet in your spiritual life or soul. Don’t let the “spectrum” of said curses influence you life. Remember “we” have a bad tendency to curse someone every time we say or direct a "God*You to Hl or something similar. Never let a curse fall from your lips or from others without a rejoinder of "God Bless You. Many of my post/replies seem to be simplistic, but I am just that…simplistic. Praying for you.

Curses are real. I’ve been cursed and have not been able to recover.

If you believe in curses, then they are real to you. I think that most “curses” are brought on by our own sins or life styles. Just my opinion.

👍

Generational curses are unrepented sins that one allows to take over their lives and their children lives like alcoholism (its not a disease if you can buy it at the corner liquor store). My father-in-law was an alcoholic, when he ‘died’ from a heart attack at 50 and recovered (yes a miracle) he lived another 28 years, serving the Lord. A great witness to stop that generational curse that existed in the family.

Sorry I’m not buying it. I have been “cursed” up and down by multiple people. I have zero confidence in the occult ability or the “sins of my ancestors” to destroy my life. God in the old teastament even turned a curse into a blessing when done against his own people.

Nowhere in the chetechism does it state that one is cursed because of a previous generations screw up. I have far too much faith in God to even entertain the silly idea. A simply self crossing is sufficient to repel any attack you “think” might occur, but God with all the angles and saints watch out for those who seek to know him.

Some people enjoy that line of thinking but I think it’s malarkey
