Are gender neutral Mass readings okay?

I’ve noticed at the parish I attend for daily mass, that sometimes the readings (and liturgy) have gender-neutral words substituted for words like “sons” and “men”. Is this okay?

Neither the laity nor the clergy have the authority to doctor the wording of the Liturgy.
