Are glosses authoritative?

I thought glosses were simply some comment made by the translator of a text, though Aquinas cites them like they’re scripture in the Summa.
 
They represent the opinion of the person writing/editing the glossa. They are not authoritative, no more so than the Ignatius Study Bible is authoritative. It MAY reflect authoritative Catholic teaching, but it may also NOT reflect Catholic teaching.
