Are gongs allowed for Tridentine Masses

A friend of mine told me that he has to use some kind of gong or bell that he has to hit with a stick during the consecration. He told me that he doesn’t like it and prefers a four bell for Mass. I wondered if this was an abuse. Does anyone know if gongs or instruments similar to gongs are prohibited?

I saw gongs used in the TLM along with other bells as far back as the '40s and '50s.

We went to a TLM once in a church that allowed our priest to celebrate the old Mass. They didn’t have the Sanctus bells but did have the “NBC” gong. Our altar boy was a little confused on how to use it but we got by. It certainly makes a different sound.

It is usually at the priest’s preference. We use a trio of bells where I attend Mass, which has a nice tinkley sound. Elsewhere, I have attended Mass where a single bell has been used and the altar server dongs the bell with a…“donger” (what is the correct term I wonder) and it gives a deeper sound which I actually prefer but am glad I do not have to polish either.
