Hi.

I wanted to ask for some opinions about an issue that I have. Sometimes crazy and weird thoughts related to faith comes to my mind. I tend to try to control and stop them but I don’t always succeed. Such thoughts could be as strange as apostasy or something blasphemous etc. As you might recognize these thoughts are thoughts that I don’t want to have and which I don’t relate to.

The issue for me today is that I sort of recently had such a thought, and now I wonder if I have to attend Confession in order to be in the state of grace? I hope these thoughts are venial matter as I struggle with this, but I would like some reassurance or some opinion from someone on this.

I would also appreciate advice on how I, by myself, can manage to do something to get rid of such thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

Are you scrupulous? It sounds like this is something that would best be addressed by your pastor.

You’ve said on previous threads you struggle with scruples, so you should really take this question to your Priest.

I probably should… I just normally tend to look at these things as embarrassing - and therefore a lot easier to discuss online.

You definitely should.

Until you discuss it with someone who is trained and qualified to help you, it won’t go away or get better. I know it seems embarrassing to you, but I promise no-one is going to look down on you for it, or judge you. Take a look at CAF - you’re not the first and you certainly won’t be the last person to struggle with intrusive thoughts and scruples. Your Priest will help you.

Thanks 🙂
I should pray for myself to have the courage to do so.
