Are ICRSS priests Canons?

So, I’ve heard and read this multiple times. The priests of the Institute of Christ the King call themselves Canons, and dress accordingly (in some cases rochet and cotta). However, they are neither Canons of a cathedral chapter nor of a collegiate chapter.

Are they really allowed to call themselves Canons, given that even the Prior general assumed the title and dress of Monsignor, and was forbidden by the Holy See to continue doing so?
