Dear friends

This Sunday the Jehovah Witnesses were out in great force on my street and whole estate! They believe that the end of the world is going to happen anytime now and are on the big push to save us all.

I was amazed to see so many of these folks going door to door like they did this Sunday, I have never seen them do that before in such numbers.

Is this happening in America as well?

God Bless you and much love and peace to you

Teresa

Yeah, it happens it America (though not in those huge numbers). Can someone explain to me how these people call themselves Christians? Same with the Latter-Day Saints.

No. Actually, I haven’t had a Jehovah’s Witness come to my door since I was about 12 or so. Hmmm…

We’ve had a big push of them in our nieghborhood lately. I posted about this in another thread, but the last visit ended badly. They really wanted to come in the house, but I wouldn’t let them. It would freak my kids out too much. (I’ve said this in another thread too, my oldest two are autistic). They gave me their literature and asked if they could come back. I told them no and to please leave. They persisted. I live across from a cemetary and there was a big funeral. I asked them if they really wanted to make a scene. They left. They came back the next week when my husband was here. He also told them we weren’t interested and to please leave. They were physically pushing and tryin g to get in the door. This really did freak my kids out. So my husband steped outside and backed them away from the door. He tried to explain that they were upsetting the boys and to please leave. They still persited to the point where my DH took the one who was doing the most talking by the sholder and escorting him to the gate. The man stood in our drive way and called the cops claiming he was assulted. Of course, he wasn’t and there was no evidence to support that. The cop gave them a good talking to (apparently there had been complaints by other neighbors) and they ended up with a fine since what they are doing is illegal in our township.

I think they are out in force due to the death of John Paul II…

thinking people will be grieving and easily persuaded. just my opinion.

None in our place so far, thankfully. But I do see them walking about in some places every now and then.

These poor, deluded, desperate people have been brainwashed into thinking that the only way they can win a place in heaven is by proselytizing, passing out Watchtower literature, and winning converts. They deserve our sympathy and prayers. Fortunately, that is also the most effective way to get rid of them.

Things I’ve said or heard said that gets them to make a hasty exit:
  1. “I’m so glad you’re here. The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to me this morning and told me to watch for you.”
  2. “Please, let me pray for you in the name of Jesus Christ.” (JW’s deny Jesus is God.)
  3. “You know that verse about how no man can serve two masters?” (JW’s keep this one bookmarked.) “Please explain James 1:1 to me - ‘James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.’”
  4. “I was just thinking that your wife/daughter is the most desirable woman I’ve seen all week. Is she free tonight?” 😃
Things I’ve said or heard said that encourages them to come back:
  1. “Go away. I work nights and need my sleep.”
  2. “You’re going to wake the baby.”
  3. “I already belong to another church.”
  4. “OK, I’ll look at this magazine of yours.”
Can you add to these lists?

Nan,

Love your lists… My husband wanted to get rid of them so he said, “My wife was a Jehovah’s Witness (true) for years and found out it was all a scam & a big lie… would you like to come in and she’ll tell you all about it?”

He said they practically RAN down the block.

Must be afriad to confront a former JW and find out what their sect is all about from a former member. 😃

Nope, haven’t seen 'em in years.

I remember back in the 60’s, they were always coming around and my father would argue with them.

My husband is from Italy, and we get Italian JW’s at our door.
One time my husband tried to reason with them and bring them back to the Church–big mistake. They sat in our living room for over an hour and my husband couldn’t get through to them. When we moved to another suburb, somehow the JW’s found out about it and sent more Italian JW’s to our door. I guess I should pray for them.

to interpret the jw bible literally…144000 people will make it to heaven. i think there there are more than 144000 jws, entonces, who is to be left out???, why do they need more if heaven is already fully booked?

I’m actually thinking the same thing. So there are false JWs in their midst then, if we go by their conclusion?

it is impossible to dialogue with a closed mind, and futile (to use a charitable word) to even try. stick a crucifix in their face and they will definitley go away.

We live in the country it is hard for them to go door to door. They have to drive door to door. For awhile, only my husband was at home when they came. Then for ten years there was no one. I shouldn’t have made that observation because in February they came.

When I told them we don’t worship Mary they said they would be back to show me that it was true.

I am sure they will be back one day.

This worked for me:

Long ago as a teenager some Hare Krishnas pushed one of their books on me at the airport. A few days later some JWs came knocking, asking me to read their literature. I reached into a drawer, pulled out the Hare Krishna book, and said, “I’ll read yours if you’ll read mine.”

They never came back.

And I think they told the Mormons to stay away from us, too.

I was approached by a JW at the gas station while filling my tank on Saturday morning, March 26th. She came up with a couple of copies of Watchtower magazines and asked me if I would like to have them. I said no, I’m converting to the Catholic Church this evening at the Easter Vigil Mass. Her eyes then glazed over and got that “deer in the headlights” look. It was odd that that should happen on the very day I was going to come into full communion with the church. Hmmm… on second thought, maybe not so odd at all. :hmmm:

Thankfully JWs and Mormons are a minority where I live, it is ironic because Later Day Saints began not too far away from where I live. The only door-to-door people we have are Evangelicals, especially people from the Believer’s Chapel. They keep walking past my door though… darn…

**I show them a picture of Benedict 16 and they run.
Then I throw holy water on them and watch them sizzle.
LOL

What I am going to try is display the Papal Flag or the flag of the Vatican and see if that puts them off.
