Are Just a Few Being Saved? Who are the few?

The Narrow Way
(Matt. 7:13, 14)

Luke 13:22-28 22And He went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. 23Then one said to Him, "Lord, are there few who are saved?" And He said to them, 24***"Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. ***25When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, "Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, "I do not know you, where you are from,’ 26then you will begin to say, "We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’ 27But He will say, ***"I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’ ***28There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust out."

I don’t know impact of these versus on you; but that is a shocking statement. There are and will be many people who try to enter the kingdom of God, who desire to be saved and they’re not.

This is a very interesting question asked. Lord, are there just a few who are being saved? Whoever asked that question understands that Jesus ministry is about salvation. Jesus was preaching the gospel of salvation. This is a perfect passage to establish that being saved and entering the kingdom are the same, because the question is, “are there just a few being saved” as Jesus answers it in verse 28 and 29, He talks about entering the kingdom of God.

In verse 24, He talks about a door into the kingdom and in verse 25, He talks about a door being shut to the kingdom. And verse 28 and 29 talks about whether people are shut out or included therefore it is a question about salvation, answered with discussion of entering the kingdom of God. Therefore, conclude that issue of being in the kingdom is simply salvation.

Who are these few and who are these many that want in and won’t “make it”?
 
In a way, we all are being saved, at least the path is quite open to us to follow it and God makes ample opportunities for us to do so, but here is the defining thing that is missed. We must chose to take up his most generous offer, and this comes down to two things, one mainly, but it’s still two.

Free will and being honest with ones self.

If we are being honest with ourselves, we will look past our self created facades, we will see clearly that we are still following the ways and life of the world, and that it is where we belong to if nothing changes. We then try to conform our will to be in line with examples and commands God has given us through the gospel and the church, which is where too, too many people are at. This in turn doesn’t help you see clearly that you still are holding onto the world, and still trying to achieve your own salvation through conformity.

The second part, is where you release your will over to his, where you let him reside in you, your being, your very soul, where you stop trying to simply conform to his example, and let his light shine through the darkness that is of the world, which has per mutated your being. You then instead of simply trying to conform to his will, are being now true to yourself, which is no longer of this world by nature at all, that instead of struggling with the flesh, you are letting the new spirit nature of yourself simply reside, simply to establish itself and simply to be what it is by it’s new nature, which is in line with what God wants us to be, and more so, has such a degree of new freedom, there are no words I can use to describe it and you look back at that worldly nature and realize, that is true bondage of the highest level even though the message which is a pure lie within it tells you otherwise.

Christ himself is what allows this all to be, for without him, we still would be a race of beings that are still trying to conform to his word, his will, his rules and his ways, yet always falling short…we may screw up and do so regularly, but those times in between, his grace, his being, his love, wow, all I can say and I’m so happy for our Lords grace, no words ever will contain it, just have to say, Praise be to God and the Lamb of God and to all of the Angels and saints and of course, our loving blessed mother Mary!!!

Look at the first 21 verses of John 3. Since baptism is not mentioned in the verses that you quoted, please don’t get side tracked with the occult salvation doctrine that the others hold to.

To enter into the kingdom is to be reborn of spirit…

Are u suggesting that the few who are being saved are the water baptised? i see obedience, but no saving faith in water baptism. i do not think this has to do with why only a few are being saved and why so many want to be saved but don’t find it. i believe it gets down as to how we try to enter by our own efforts.

No, the others believe that your salvation is hidden(occulted) in water baptism. They do not believe in the power of God to save you.

Scott Hahn is a master of these occult ideas…

I will offer my take on these verses, but please remember that this is just my personal take.

Strive here certainly indicates effort, and the narrow gate certainly indicates a specific and even difficult target. Jesus also states elsewhere that the Road to damnation is wide and many find it. So it is obvious that here He speaks of the effort it will take for anyone to achieve the kingdom - Heaven and the Beatific vision.
Seeking and being unable, seems to me to relate to the parable of the sower. There will be many who enter upon the journey but will not complete it. They will turn away or become lax and fall away for whatever reason. Their faith will not be strong enough to endure.
25When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, "Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, "I do not know you, where you are from,’ 26then you will begin to say, "We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’ 27But He will say, ***"I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. These verses strike me as speaking about that point of death, wherein one is judged not sufficient and the gates of heaven are closed against the unsaved. This again speaks to those who become complacent and lazy and lax in their struggle to “be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect”. It is also written that Not all who Cry out “Lord Lord” will enter the Kingdom but only those who do the Will of The Father.

I hope that my comments above help.
In the end those who are saved are those who Accept and Persevere in their Faith. Those who seek to become perfect in Love and to Do the Father’s Will.

i don’t know who scott hahn is other than he is a Catholic and an apologist for the religion.

water does not save or remove sin; it is obedient to follow the command and to identify oneself with the Lords death burial and resurrection.

i must be getting sicker (flu) because i origianlly said water doesn’t remove “dirt” where i meant “sin”… think i better go to sleep and rest up so pray i will be in full recovery very soon…than you. I’ll try to catch up tomorrow; lord willing.

He has ideas like Mary is a golden box, built for the temple in Jerusalem. Ideas like that.
 
I know he’s written some good books, just saying, there are no other people that are stating he’s part of some cult in any way, which means you are going to have to back up your statement with facts, and pulling a line out of nowhere, you must also make sure we are informed as to the context it was written to. When it comes to Mary, her roll is many fold, which is why it’s often easier to use analogy to describe some of them, so please, be specific here.

I’m not sure if you are joking, but if not you are definitely confused.

Scott Hahn, and most Christians for that matter, sometimes refer to Mary as the Ark of the New Covenant.

The Old Ark carried the Old Covenant, ie. the Ten Commandments.

The New Ark, Mary, carried the New Covenant, ie. the Word made Flesh.

Nothing cultish about that.

This is the misconception of wording, a cult is not the occult, yet often they can be working in tangent of each other.

Also, you are wrong on the matter that we don’t think that the power of God will save us, just the opposite.
