Over the past several decades there have been numerous people (including some priests)- and numerous books- claiming life after death experiences. If the Church teaches that we don’t get “second chances” on God’s judgment day for us, how can such experiences be ever taught or believed within our Church?

It is possible that some of those experiences are real, its also possible that there’s a natural explanation for those experiences. We simply don’t know.

I would hesitate to say that such an experience is a “second chance” at judgment. Clearly it wasn’t “their time.” Throughout history God has given private revelations to some individuals so this wouldn’t be that much different. Various Saints have claimed private revelations of heaven or hell, a so-called “near death experience” would not be much different.
