I noticed that at my local Maronite church during the mass in which more English is used the congregation responds “and also with you.” When the new missal begins being used in Advent with they change this to “and with your spirit” or will the maronite liturgy not be affected at all. I know the liturgy wont be affected in general,: I was just curious about this one thing.

I know that the new missal is only for the Latin Rite.

God Bless

You really have answered your own question

As I understand it the changes in the translation of the Latin Catholic Mass are only for that Church .

Exactly when it will be implemented is still a little unclear but yes, the “also with you” stuff will finally be jettisoned by the Maronites as well. Actually the Creed will also be replaced with the “new” translation, (except for the “We” which actually does represent the ancient Syriac version). Anyway, it was all supposed to coincide with the revised English in the Roman Rite, and while it certainly won’t happen before the first Sunday of Advent in the Roman Rite, it will happen. We just don’t know when at this point.

All these dates really get my blood boiling. If the texts have been approved, what is the point of the wait till Advent? Haven’t we been waiting 40+ years in the USA and other English speaking countries?

I know that unlike the USA, In Australia, the new translations have been officially in use since Pentecost of this year. The Maronites in Austrailia have abandoned the “And also with you” and other translational errors since at least 2006.

As is always the case, the USA is always in a league of it’s own. 🤷

I wouldn’t blame the USA for this one. Try all the barbarian Anglophones. 🙂
I could be wrong, but I don’t think he meant the old ICEL “translations” themselves, but rather the timetable (unspecified as it remains) for finally getting rid of them that was adopted by the Maronite bishops in the US.

I’ll have to pay more attention. I’ve gotten more and more interested in the Maronite Rite in the past year. I wondered how much ICEL would be in a half-Arabic, half-English DL.

I think Maronites should refrain from using anything in English or any other language but the one that makes their rite special.
