Why all the fuss about prayer studies? Suppose, for a moment, that God exists and often answers prayer. It does not follow that God answers prayers prayed in the context of a scientific study. Why would He? If praying worked like clockwork, if it was causally efficacious like exercising and then losing weight, then people would pray, not as an expression of faith, but as a magic spell.
Thus, God would have a vested interest in making the studies NOT work, since they are obstacles to faith. So, under the theory that God exists and answers prayer, prayer studies are worthless.
