Are miracles rare events?

  1. Did God create the universe and then leave it to develop entirely by itself without intervening frequently?
  1. *Would a loving Father who cares for all His creatures adopt a policy of non-intervention?
  1. *Does God do everything He can to minimise unnecessary conflict, pain and death in the world?
4.Is it an admission of failure to acknowledge that the laws of nature cannot cater for every contingency in such a vast and immensely complex universe?
  1. How often does God answer our prayers miraculously?

Points 1, 2, 3 and 5 are theological questions.

Point 5 is not. Certianly not as it is worded.

Or are you intimating that the “laws of nature” and God are one and the same thing?
 
If one believes that God created the cosmos and the laws surrounding it, and we realize that the human race as it is could not survive if even one of those variables was slightly different than it is now (if the earth were closer or further from the sun, etc etc) then every moment is in a way, a miracle.

Miracles are defined as suspensions of the laws of nature.

I agree but does God do more than sustain the cosmos and its laws?

May I just “listen in?” This is interesting, but I have no education to add to the conversation. I want to learn, though.

I’ve witnessed miracles in my life and have heard of miracles performed in the lives of others and I believe because it has happened to me. We tend not to believe in the miraculous when it does not happen to us.

Tony, once you’ve experienced a Hollywood special effects miracle in your own life, you’ll know they really are just guidelines.

Or else study quantum physics a lot! 😃

The Design argument is superior to other interpretations of reality on account of the extent to which it satisfies the criteria of intelligibility, precision, consistency, comprehensiveness, verifiability, falsifiability and fertility. It is the most adequate explanation of the universe that has yet been presented and it provides a rational basis for theism.

If He did “everything He could” these things wouldn’t exist at all. Then where would we be? Stuck here forever. Not a good idea.

Maybe the issue is “unnecessary.” Did you have something in mind?

It’s not a question of all or nothing but as little as possible! Disasters and deformities can be diminished without decimating them…
