Constantine was an Arian
I don’t think so. He was baptized by an Arian bishop but Constantine exiled those who refused to accept the Nicean creed, including Arius, along with those bishops who refused to join in condemning Arius. He also ordered all copies of the Thalia, (Arius’ book), to be burned.

Constantine’s son was an Arian. That may be who you are thinking of.

That is not true because Mormons don’t feel the need to exclude others from the definition of Christian.

no…just from heaven…

As Mormons do:

“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, reconcile
yourselves to the will of God, and not to the
will of the devil and the flesh; and remember,
after ye are reconciled unto God, that it is only
in and through the grace of God that ye are
saved.” (2 Nephi 10:24)

yes…the lds god who was once a sinful man (a point you continually dodge)

Joseph Smith and the modern apostles and prophets are important to our salvation in the same way that the Pope and the creeds of the Catholic church are important to your salvation.

wrong. No one has ever said that a Pope needs to approve people’s salvation, a power given to js…

Before the Council he didn’t have a position. Three years after the Council, Constantine come out as an Arian which he remained until his death. I believe if Constantine had been Orthodox, Arianism would have died out much quicker than it did.

Only because the true knowledge of Christ was restored to the earth by the Prophet Joseph Smith.
Answer me this: what prophet of God would marry 14 year olds, have 36 wife’s, sell snake oil and commit adultery over ten times?

yes…if your god happened to once be a sinful man and if your Jesus was Satan’s brother…

Yes, you are quite correct. Apologies. :o

Since the LDS belief is that our God was once a sinful man who progressed to god hood then Dare I say that JS is a man who himself is becoming a god of his own planet… I guess those multiple wive sure would come in handy to bear his spirit children to populate his kingdom???.. :hmmm: :D:p

Debbie, can you explain a bit how faith and reason led you out of the LDS Church?

Thank you,

PnP

I was born into the Mormon faith & spoon fed its teachings, we were strongly discouraged to question our faith & any material that wasn’t church approved was considered "worldly & of questionable standards. I was always pressured into attending seminary, youth temple baptisms for the dead, other church activities. Whenever I asked my parents about what happens in the temple, why they wear garments, polygamy etc… I always recieved what I felt was ‘church approved’ responses of ‘it is sacred so its not to be discussed in detail until you are temple endowed…’
I always disliked that during our weekly youth ‘mutual’ activities the ‘young women’ was always focused on cooking & other ‘homemaking’ skills, while the ‘young men’ played sports. The YSA (young single adult) classes were worse…
I’ve always had doubts about the churches teachings & legitimacybut kept them to myself as the fear of rejection & disapproval from my parents.
I met my maronite Catholic husband when we were 18, I stopped attending sacrament meetings & the other activities by 19 as I simply didn’t want to go anymore. I had enough. I wasn’t interested & neither was my husband in converting to the Mormon faith despite my parents constantly inviting the missionaries over for dinner to speak to him!
My husband & I got married in the catholic church at 22 despite the ‘empty threats’ from my mum to boycott the wedding. (still say that my marriage is only for time but not eternity).
We’ve had 2 children (the youngest just recently) whom we have happily & wholeheartedly had baptised in the Catholic church on their first birthdays. I’ve always felt drawn to the Catholic faith & finally I couldn’t ignore my interest & curiosity any more so through my own desire & no pressure at all from anyone, I enrolled myself into the maronite rite adult baptism classes & started attending mass weekly at my local parish. Never have I felt more sure in my life that I am doing the right thing for myself, my husband & my children. It has been & still is an ogoing process of de- programming myself from the teachings of the Mormon faith & learning of the true teachings of the true church that Jesus himself set up on this earth. I love & thoroughly enjoy attending the baptism classes & the weekly mass.
This is what i posted in one of your threads a few months ago.

To be honest, while i felt no spiritual attachment to the LDS after I left, I didn’t know much of the real issues of the LDS church until I became serious about the Catholic faith. Only with further study while going through RCIA did I find out the ugly truth behind the LDS.

You have a very interesting story, Debbie! I was aware of some or most of the real issues with the LDS Church when I left. But becoming Catholic has made all the more aware of the depth and seriousness of the issues.

Same, same

Was more like debbie_h until I left, then learned so much and was able to see the gravity of that knowledge.

I have discussions with several faiths at work, impromptu, one is a TBM (converted at 16). He is shutdown to hearing the Truth, so convinced he has it, he’s just ‘helping’ the rest of us see it. He has no depth of knowledge to have a decent discussion with. However, my sin is still so very easily getting my dander up over my frustrations, lies, betrayal, etc. of the Mormon faith I was born into. So glad to be Home in His Church and have that to lean on when I need to recharge.

Or one could ask
What Pope of God would commit sacrilege, simony, perjury, adultery, and incest? (pope John XII as example)

True. One could always present a false analogy.

No Pope has ever introduced a new gospel, not found in the apostolic faith. Doing so contradicts scripture itself (Galatians).

LDS faithful have to reason whether to believe Joseph Smith and
  • that his immoral character is a basis for believing in him (just ignore the 36 wives and adultery over 10 times)
  • his new gospel that is counter to scientific evidence (American Indians from Asia)
  • that Jesus Christ would immediately fail his Church (really, would God go through all of salvation history, send all the prophets telling of the Messiah, have the Messiah come, set up a Church and IMMEDIATELY let it fail?) Makes no sense at all. None. NONE. :nope:
  • that there was a “GREAT APOSTASY” that no one can tell you when it was despite scripture saying that the Church membership numbers grew greatly, guided by the Holy Spirit (interesting it is that the Church membership growth is guided by the Holy Spirit, but the Holy Spirit lets a great apostasy occur somewhere along the way…when, who knows)
OR

That the Catholic Church never had a great apostasy. That it was guided by the Holy Spirit to all truth on faith and morals, protected by Jesus Christ himself. Protection from sinful administrators? Not so much. Lamp stand on the mountain? I’d say so, one billion or more say so.

lol…what a horrible analogy.

But, what else should we expect?

Remember, no pope, unlike js, has EVER claimed to be a prophet who walks and talks with God.

but, nice try…

well, that was untrue. It was not a nice try at all…

Did John XII say God commanded him under threat of death to commit adultery? Did he then turn around and teach the Catholic faithful that God had instituted adultery for all members, resulting in years of adultery by members?

I wouldn’t say that I was completely oblivious to the truth while I was LDS, but I wasn’t aware as to the extent of these truths.

Welcome home! :hug1:
