I guess it depends on the diocese. In our archdiocese more and more priests are wearing cassocks - maybe not all the time, but I see it so much now that it doesnât even seem âunusualâ or ânewâ. Itâs actually becoming common attire. These are diocesan priests. But I also donât see anything wrong when I see priests not wearing cassocks.
To me, no matter what the ânormâ is, if a person feels drawn to wear a certain attire or act a certain way that is not part of the norm, as long as it is done with the best intentions and doesnât hurt himself or others and is not âsinfulâ, I see nothing wrong with it. If someone wants to think the worst of them, so be it. I wouldnât want them to change because of a negative personâs beliefs. It would be like me changing my way of dress to fit into the norm because of a pre-judged belief of what kind of person they thought I was.
