I think here in the UK, a small and overcrowded island, we are very conscious of the need for tolerance. This has led us to be more outgoing and ecumenical, perhaps, than many countries.
For example, non-Catholics have been invited to come forward for a blessing at Communion time since a conference of bishops at Swanwick in the 1970s.

I wasn’t there and I don’t like to second guess the bishop. In the end it is his responsibility to make sure his flock is well and appropriately served.
