I’ve been through these forums and various sites researching Catholicism. And for all intensive purposes, I think, reason and pray like a Catholic. I’m Protestant, now, but I have been attending Mass for the past few weeks with a friend of mine. I’m completely ecstatic with the fact that I have found the True Church. If it were allowed, I would join the Church now! After this Easter season, I will be looking into RCIA classes.

My main question is, is it appropriate for me to pray the rosary now or to wait until I am officially in the church? I haven’t purchased one yet, because I don’t know if this sort of thing is frowned upon. I’ll be posting more eventually once I have started RCIA.

Hello, Welcome, and YES, YES, YES!!!

You may absolutely pray the rosary! If you do not own one and presuming you have never prayed the rosary before, you may like this site:

ewtn.com/vondemand/audio/seriessearchprog.asp?seriesID=504&T1=rosary

It’s a link to EWTN’s Scriptural rosary. It takes you through all of the mysteries of the rosary and gives you Scriptural references to meditate upon while you are praying the prayers!

You will surely be richly blessed by praying this powerful and beautiful prayer!

Welcome, Andrew!

You can absolutely pray the Rosary. I’ve been Catholic all my life and only just recently started to pray it regularly. The rhythm of the prayers allows a deeper meditation on the life of Christ than I have found in any other form of prayer. I’m sure it will bless your life as much as it has mine.

Absolutely! Please do!

St. Louis de Montfort: “The Rosary is the most powerful prayer to touch the Heart of Jesus, Our Redeemer, who so loves His Mother.”

Pope Paul VI: “The Rosary is a treasure of graces.”

Pope John Paul II: “The Rosary is my favorite prayer…
The simple prayer of the Rosary marks the rhythm of human life.”

I will be confirmed this Easter Vigil and I have been praying the Rosary since last summer. The Rosary is a prayerful meditation of the Gospels, 20 different mysteries of Christ’s life.

I bought a Rosary Prayer CD from Fr. Groeschel that you can pray along with, it has beautiful music and a lot of scripture and such. You can get this from any online catholic resource/bookstore type place. They usually have several varieties of CD sets to choose from. I also have one that is Pope John Paul II Scriptural Meditations with the Rosary. That one also is beautiful. When I’m driving I just pop one in and say the Rosary in my travels. Even traffic jams are peaceful now!

Get to it, and in time you will learn to miss it if you haven’t prayed it for awhile!

No problem at all! Do the Scriptural Rosary for an even better experience.

Andrew:

There is nothing wrong with praying the rosary for anyone. I know of several non-Catholic christians who pray the rosary and attend eucharistic adoration at our parish.

Welcome Home 🙂

I converted 3 yrs ago, Its been an amazing journey. I’ve never felt so peaceful and free in all my life.

Many prayers
MM

of course you may pray the rosary. it is a private devotion so anyone may pray it. to get the full benefit read the scriptures that apply to each mystery so your prayer becomes a meditation upon the Gospel as it is intended to be.

it is only fair to warn you, however, if you are contemplating learning more about the Catholic church or even seeking full communion, you are embarking on the fast track if you start praying the rosary, because Mary will grease the wheels for you. She is eager to bring everyone closer to her Son and this is one of her favorite ways of doing this.

Absolutely! You’re in good company! A number of my co-workers (I work in a Protestant church, tho’ I’m Catholic) have asked me to teach them to pray the Rosary and I’m always delighted to do so. . .

No you can’t pray the Rosary … it’s OURS! Do you hear me? OURS OURS OURS!!! :tsktsk:

For those wth their sarcasm filters on … that was me being sarcastic 😃

Check it out! I found this about 10 years ago and printed it out.
Almost any kind of rosary or chaplet you would ever want to pray 🙂

Peace
That’s lovely Godfrey - of course I pray the Divine Mercy every day, and I have prayed the Holy Wounds Chaplet and the St Joseph one at different times.

I pray quite often to the Infant of Prague so I might take up that one, as well as the St Therese (Little Flower) chaplet.

That’s excellent!

I created a “specialized” rosary I pray based on combining parts from two that are there and some personal things 🙂

Even when I was a Protestant, I prayed certain types of the rosary
It is a beautiful tool of devotional prayer for anyone

Hope you enjoy! 🙂

👋 Welcome. You do not have to be Catholic to pray the Rosary. My BIL told me a story of a girl he works with. When she was little she was always sick, in and out of hospital, her family at that time were muslim, her mother would pray fervently to their allah but the little girl was getting worse. So one day she decided to pray to Jesus and His mother and the little girl with every passing day was being healed. From that point in time the whole family converted and have never been happier. This girl today is fighting fit and healthy. 👍

I just have to tell this story. I just went to my first confession this past week, (40 years worth) and I was not sure what I was going to get as penance, never had that before, so the priest asked if I knew how to pray the Rosary so of course I told him I try to pray it every day. So my penance was to pray it every day for a week with the intentions for priests.

I was thrilled! I had a big smile on my face and thanked him! I’m not sure if he ever had such a happy response to penance before! 😃

Needless to say, my CD’s are getting a workout! 👍

:clapping: :tiphat: to that priest. The priests I have dealt with have never given out more than 10 Hail Mary’s for penance and this was after 15+ years of not going to confession and some pretty  sins. Anyway I was always taught to say additional penances as its not easy for a priest to determine what is the right penance for a penitant. Although my first confession in 15+ years was 10 Hail Marys but to also attend Mass as part of my penance and offer it up to God 🙂 so it wasnt so bad. That year I went on a pilgrimage walk on Good Friday as part of my penance, 11.00pm to 7.00am the next morning :bigyikes: Tiring but worth it. 👍

God bless all priests and may we pray for their intentions.

As others have said, of course you can pray the Rosary! It’s a wonderful devotion. I’ll be coming into the Church this Easter Vigil and have been praying the Rosary for a year. But be careful! It’s a powerful prayer! 😃

Let us know who it goes! 😃 Oh, and Welcome Home!!!

Yes, John Wesley (founder of Methodism) did & so do some Eastern Orthodox and High Church Anglicans as a private devotion.

I recently heard the John Wesley never left the Anglican church. I don’t know the specifics but I’m trying to find out more.
