Are old people allowed to have sex?

If the primary purpose of sexual intercourse is for procreation, I would presume that older couples who can no longer procreate shouldn´t indulge in sexual intercourse. If they can indulge in this act, then why is it necessary that the ejaculation take place in the vagina?
