It is my understanding that they share with Rome the position that the Church will forever be indefectible in matters of doctrine.
I don’t think that is true. I think the infallability goes with the Pope.

That much we agree upon thus the findings of the first 7 ecunemical councils when the catholic church was the entire east and west those councils and teachings are deemed infaliable. But councils since that time and papal rulings since that time are not deemed binding upon Eastern Orthodox. We basically agree upon the first 1000 years of Christianity. But a lot has been developed since then and we have 2 disticnt traditions going in seperate directions the longer we are in schism the more we disagree and the it makes it that much harder for reunifcation.

Orthodoxy is beautiful, at least in the abstract. You will find that even among those churches which are trying to be “American” – like the OCA, the ethnic overtones can be quite intense. This can be wonderful, of course. The Russians have the best music but the Greeks have the best food.

My husband, who is Greek, and I seriously considered Orthodoxy (he has an odd family and was a cradle Catholic) but ultimately, for us the decision boiled down to this:

If you have Apostolic Succession (historical descent from the Apostles) – as both Rome and the Orthodoxy have – and Peter is not in hour house of Bishops, you are missing the centerpiece.

If you are seriously considering Orthodoxy, you might look at some of the threads on the subject in these forums. I would also go directly to Orthodox sources.

Did I say “papal infallibility?” Indefectibility is a related doctrine that is not seated exclusively in the Bishop of Rome but refers to the doctrine of the entire Church. It is a related concept with technical differences.

I have never heard of another form of infallability other than Papal.
