Condemnation of these things should be proportional to their severity. People use semi-conscious hand movements to spell words. It is not demonic. It does make light of death, and the church’s teaching regarding prayer, so should be avoided.
Tell that to Catholic Exorcists. Fr. Gabriel Amorth was quite adamant that they were a gateway to hell. I would never bring one into my house. Nor, would I wish to be present for its use
I was persuaded into joining in on using a Ouiji board with friends before my re-version. I had no idea at the time how completely satanic they are. Never again will I even be in the same room as one.
Nothing good will answer to the use of a Ouiji board.
Something evil might.
Those things are dangerous, and more so because people don’t know the danger.
I have first hand experience of their capacity to invite powers of darkness into persons who either knowingly or with complete lack of knowledge and being innocent “play” with these things that are in truth open doors to another realm and spirits of darkness.
The movie the Exorcist was in truth based on a true story which involved the use of a oijai board.
It seems to me that in most ways, our God is a hidden God, he asks that we have faith to believe in Him. But the devil is different, if you seek him, you are very likely to find him in an often up close and personal way. I think the devil sometimes like to show off to a person or persons and exhibit his existence and some of his power. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence for this. Many people are starved to experience the supernatural in a very tangible way and messing around with a ouijai board will often accomplish this goal if done with some persistence. Kind of similar to being struck by lightning, if you want the experience , you can probably attain to it with a little work. It’s a power a person in themselves has no control over and the person may come to realize that very quickly. Only Jesus in his mercy has the power to come and fix things.
Fr. Amorth likes to point out that encounters with the demonic most of the time occur when a person knowingly and sometimes unknowingly opens up a door and invites something in of their own free will.
As a teenager, I also did this. My friend asked a question, the planchette went very rapidly to “no” and then literally flew off the board. We didn’t use it again. I’m quite convinced none of us were pushing it.
