Given that our bodies are made up of atoms that have been in stars, the earth, and other lifeforms (most recently our food) and that we have none of the atoms that we did a decade ago (yes, every last one has been changed out) would it be right to say that our bodies are a part of the universe just like a star, a chair, or the earth?

Would such a position be heretical?

My dear friend, how can the truth be heretical?

Don’t we live in this Universe?
If we live IN IT, then it stands to reason that what we are made off, came from that same Universe.

The Church, teaches we are made of dust and that to dust we shall return when we die.

Is not the dust we are made off also a part of this Universe?

You see, there is no need for fancy Physics or Astronomy to prove this, just some very basic common sense and LOGIC is enough.

Peace be onto you!

Hi PuppyT

I doubt the authors of the Bible were aware of the existence of atoms, so no, I dont think your position would be heretical.

We are one with the universe. An interesting thought.

Our bodies are literally made with star dust. I love that fact. And this is not heretical—if anything, it further proves how amazing, incomprehensible and HUGE our God is. 👍

Our psychikon soma is literally a part of the earth, therefore the physical universe.

This is not only not heterodox, it is Scriptural.

“The first man is of the earth, earthy.” (1 Co 15).

Our somas are held onto the earth by its gravity in the same way that grains of sand on the shore, pebbles in the desert, etc, are held down. The only difference is that our life (soul or psyche) holds the material together to form the human soma and move it around.

Our surface skin cells are no longer alive and fall off the soma, reverting to the earth. The same will happen to the whole body when life leaves it.

Of course, the flip side is our pneumatikon soma, which will be fitted to our spiritual soul/life after human life, and is “the image of the heavenly”!

We were made in the image and likeness of God. We are most definitely a part of the universe! 🙂

Another way to think of this is: our human soma comprises all four of the classical elements;

Air: the breath in our noses/lungs;

Water: in the blood and cytoplasm;

Earth: The ground substance of the soma his or herself;

and Fire: the energy of our soul/mind/Neshamah.

Remove any of the the four and there is literally nobody.

Absolutely Not.
Don’t take it in the
New Age-y way of
“We are All one in
the ALL” lol. 😃
I actually find that a beautiful thing, when you consider the immense size of
the Universe, though tiny and insignificant compared to God, nevertheless it
is incredible that God would make us to be part OF ALL THIS:

:eek:(We’re not even
a speck here !):eek:

We are physically part of the material universe which we can perceive and in which we meet as minds that think in words and images, used for communication within a psychosocial environment. Ultimately this is contained by our spiritual nature which is part of a larger cosmos that includes angels and demons. We exist as part of and in relation to all this.
