Are our prayers directed by our words or

This question is asking whether when we pray are our prayers influenced by our hearts, our essential self, or are they directed simply to the object of our prayer?

So if I pray to Our Lord Jesus by name, is the prayer directed to Him or is it influenced by my essential self and thoughts?
 
It’s probably just a silly fear, but I’m asking if when I pray to Jesus or God or the Holy Mother could my prayer be affected by my thoughts and not reach the person I am praying to?

Also it makes perfect sense too since no sinner could have ever prayed and received help to change if our prayers to God were affected by our existing natures. St Augustine for example.

Both, we pray with our hearts if we are genuine. We are praying to God.
If we lose focus , then our prayer will be affected by our thoughts and distractions.

Have you tried praying the Jesus Prayer or the Maranatha.

Is the Jesus prayer also know as the Fatima prayer?
I haven’t heard of the Maranatha, I know it means “come close” I think?
 
No, it is

‘Lord Jesus, have mercy on me’. Repeat as necessary and push out all thoughts or distractions, even inspired thought. Pray, silence, pray, silence

Paul wrote letters with the Maranarha Prayer. And Paul kept it in Aramaic, rather then translate to Greek. It was so common.
