RE: Redemptorists- They used to run the parish where I spent my teen years. I do not think they go in entirely for “fire and brimstone” these days. I went to one of their missions in our parish about three years ago, and the “fire” was returning but not as it used to be.

No doubt about it, the Redemptorists and Passionists have a special charism that produces very good and enduring fruit, particularly when they return to the “basics” and teach as the apostles taught!

Maybe all that is needed is for us to let our pastors know, we really would like to see Missions return to parish life on a regular basis.

Would everyone join me this Lent in praying for a return to this very important ministry within the Church?

We have one every year, right around Lent.

They last 4/5 days. One night always includes Reconciliation. 👍

We have a new priest, I wonder if we will have one this year. :hmmm:

down here most individual parishes do not have the resources to pay someone to come in for a mission, so either they ask another priest of the diocese (and presumably the pastor reciprocates) or band together as a deanery, or the entire diocese invites a speaker. We have had Father Corapi twice, and the Knights of Columbus pay for diocesan Youth Retreats or missions such as Y2K. These always have one night reserved for adults. This year we have Fr. Zachary, Jesse Romero and Radix coming.

The Fathers of Mercy do parish missions. fathersofmercy.com/

They do strive to help people recognize sin in their lives and the need to go to confession regularly.

We had them give a mission in one of my parishes during Advent. I am thinking about asking them to the other parish this fall. I might be able to alternate between my two larger parishes each year.

If you are called to encourage your pastor to have a parish mission, the Fathers of Mercy might be the way to go.👍

I almost forgot to tell you that they ask for a free will offering. They hope that the bigger parishes will help offset the expenses for smaller parishes

My parish priest, Father Larry Richards, gives many missions throughout the United States. He is a fantastic speaker! He is a young, conservative, passionately Catholic priest who not only preaches fire and brimstone, but will then show you how loved you are by God. His missions are usually four days long and one evening is devoted to his “Passion Talk”. It is the most soul touching teaching about the Passion of Jesus Christ. Following this, he has confessions for as long as there are people in the church. And he is a wonderfully caring priest to go to confession to.
If you would like to contact him or find out about him , his website is www.thereasonforourhope.org (the reason for our hope)

He is a truly holy man and I thank the Lord each day for bringing Father Larry to our parish.

Thanks for the website! He has a gift in the way that he appeals to the youth…no nonsense! And they respond positively to that!

I bookmarked the site and subscribed to Father Larry’s e-mail newsletter.
I thank the Lord for priests such as this who speak the whole truth and touch so many lives!
