Are people against Christians turning me anti Christian?

I don’t try to but on the internet I see a lot of negativety towards Christians and it hurts me. It offends me that Christians can be treated this way and no one cares. I saw a picture on deviantart that shows a child dressed as a roman. He drew on a chalkboard romans chasing Jesus under text that read “Jesus Christ, Hippie at large”. I felt hurt by this for lots of reasons. It bothered me for one thing, knowing that if it where a minority then it would be deleted. If it were a minority or another religion it would probably be removed from the site, and the user punished. I’m sorry if this sounds mean or offensive but I don’t mean it to be. But it bothers me that its done to Christians and no one cares. I read the comments and everyone agrees with this idiot! Everyone was saying “lol” and “I love it”. On the same site there was a religion meme. For those of you who dont know, a meme is like a quiz. Its questions you answer about yourself or your character. Anyway, one of the questions was “why do you think your religion is right” and someone wrote “because I don’t want to worship a god who says he loves me, then sends me to a fire pit if I brake a rule.” That hurt me too. I felt like commenting back, but I chickened out. Im worried that all this exposure to non-Christian beliefs is turning me. I dont want to be changed. I feel like each time I read something like that I become less Christian, like Faith points are deducted or something. How can I fix this? How can I stay christian?

Hey Hun,
I'm sorry you had/have to deal with that. I don't think it's necessarily that Christians don't care- alot of time they don't see it (whatever material was posted). And I know that sometimes it takes alot to argue a point with someone. But let me tell you, don't let anything get in the way of standing up for your faith. I have, and I know the regrets I have now because of it. Remember that taking the smallest insult for Jesus "ups" your "Faith points"... and you just may be proving a very powerful witness to some of those people on there- who actually believe that there's no one out there who will stand up for there faith. Don't let the fear that you're the "only one" hold you back. Go out there and get 'em! You got the prayers of the Holy Mother Church... and others like me- behind you to catch you when you fall and back you up =) God Bless

It’s part of being Christian. Jesus said we will suffer andber persecuted because we follow him.

Basically, there are always going to be anti-christian things wherever you go or what websites you visit. There are even anti-Christian people here on CA.

Defend your faith where you think it will do good and ignore the rest.

It’s difficult being exposed to all these comments, but I think other generations had it a lot worse. They were imprisoned, martyred, exiled, and we’re just enduring taunts at the very worst (at least in the US). I don’t think there is any reason to expect it to change, Christianity carries a message that society at large doesn’t want to hear: restraint and self-less love.

And there’s a lot more in store for us as at the End of the Age (Matthew 24):

“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.”

Sometimes, we just have to hold our tongues and take the slap because arguing with them, trying to convince them to “be nice” really isn’t going to do us or anyone else any good.

They don’t know any better. They don’t know how Christianity brought us science, universities and teaching institutions, the money system (no trading eggs for milk!) and the base of finances. Christianity brought an explosion of art and music. Hospitals and orphanages. The system of law and governance. Did you know that in China, which isn’t Christian, they have a one child policy so many many girl babies are aborted? Catholic teaching is that every person has dignity and must be treated with respect.

We can look back at the centuries and be proud of what Christ gave to His Church and how it has affected the world and history. Those people are just showing their ignorance. They enjoy what Christianity has given them and don’t even know or appreciate it. It would be like explaining to a fish what ‘wet’ is. Let them live in another part of the world for a year where there hasn’t been Christianity, and see how they like it.

I just saw the picture, and although you may have a problem with it I actually think it’s pretty funny. Because, on the bright side… in all reality calling Jesus a hippie is practically a compliment in our world of people (like you said) calling God hateful. Although in all reality, before His execution, the Romans didn’t really have diddly squat to do with Him, so the cartoon is a bit inaccurate. AFTER it started gaining steam as a religion, then they were threatened by having a group accountable to someone higher than Caesar running around.

And I wouldn’t take offense at the cult comment he makes either, because that word has many different connotations. It’s only lately that it got locked in to meaning “goat sacrificers”.

But I do hate how people talk about us, especially on the internet where they basically get the know-it-all ball rolling and then just bask in each others’ egos. Puke…

I should add, when you see stuff like that cartoon try to see the larger meaning. In that case he was poking fun at how the Romans felt threatened by Christ’s Church because of their (the Romans) corrupt view of authority. He wasn’t attacking Jesus or promoting killing Him or something.
