I’m not sure if I’m on the correct forum but this has been on my mind. I was listening to a radio program on EWTN radio and a person called for some advice and asked for prayers. The EWTN radio host said “ok we’ll all pray for you, but those of you out there that are not in the state of grace don’t pray because you will negate the prayers of everyone else” I had never heard of that. Does that mean that if you and I are asked to pray for the same person and I’m in a state of sin-whether it’s a mortal sin or venial sin- and you are not, will I negate your prayers?

Thank you,

 I can only hope the presenter was joking.

There is absolutely no such Church teaching.

In fact the contrary - even mortal sinners are required to join in the greatest prayer of all - the Mass - every week, on pain of further mortal sin. This would not be so if their prayers negated other people’s, would it?

Rediculus!!
If you remember the program and air date you might want to contact EWTN to try and get clarification…Not only is this not a Ctholic teaching, I know of NO Chrisitan church that would subscribe to such a thing.

Peace
James

Had to be a feeble attempt at a joke. Maybe they were referring to something that had been asked and answered earlier in the program.
