Are Priests allowed to wear the monstrance pendant (like mother angelica) over their cassocks? Only asking here 'cause its kind of a rubrics question and this being the Liturgy section. I know acolytes are allowed to wear the pectoral cross without the Chain.

related: can priests wear pectoral crosses or is that strictly a bishop thing.

The “monstrance pendant” is in my experience usually a symbol of their Religious Order. Those Orders that are as an example “Servants of the Blessed Sacrament”, Etc.

Are they the priests on EWTN?

Ahem Pardon me dear Brother (I love the franciscans soooo much by the way, you guys rock!) but what I meant was, could say a diocesan, jesuit, Legionarie of Christ, etc wear the pendant over their cassock. Also could a franciscan friar wear it?

I prefer the Tau “T” or the Tau symbol (with the crossed hands) but have been known to wear a crucifix. I know that a Religious Order could regulate what their priests, brothers and Sisters can wear. I would think that the a Bishop could regulate what his secular priests can. As for others I would think that the pendent would fall in the same catagory as the crucifix, or Saints medal. Remembering that these are NOT jewlery, but external signs of our internal profession as a Christian.
