Like making fun of politicians or famous people but not in a malicious way, just for a laugh?

Yes. God himself appointed many of these politicians.
You make fun of people - you make fun at God -
You make fun of politicians - you’ll make fun of your neighbor as well.

If they are, I’m in serious trouble.

No, of course not. The holy spirt gave us a sense of humor for a reason.

Ephesians 5:1-4

"Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving."

So, with the Apostle’s exhortation in mind, I would say the jokes you describe would range between inappropriate/unbecoming of a Saint of God at best, to venially sinful, to potentially mortally sinful (if it is vulgar and very offensive and public, for example) - with this in mind, simply abide by the old maxim “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything.”

Slander and libel are sinful. Sarcasm isn’t.

God appointed Nancy Pelosi? Gotta have a word with Him later today in confession.

Romans 13:1.

“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”

Nancy Pelosi was placed in her position of authority by Providence in order to carry out the inscrutable decrees of the Omnipotent One.

How does God appoint politicians if we vote in them in office?
How does God control history if humans with free will are the agents of history?

Because Sovereign Providence directs the minds and hearts of all creatures on Earth, so as to bring about the Will of the Almighty.

So, Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Mao, and Pol Pot were placed in position by Providence in order to carry out the inscrutable decrees of the Omnipotent One???

Yes.

God’s Permissive Will allowed them to rise to power, and everything they did was overseen by the Sovereign King.

So, God in His providence, oversaw the Holocaust, the Gulags, and the Killing Fields? It was part of God’s plan for humanity, that’s what you are saying?

I suggest you never post this reply and the question it asks on a forum populated with those of the Jewish persuasion.

Yes, it was.

It was allowed as part of God’s Permissive Will.

It violated His Holy and Perfect Will, but he permitted it for his purposes known only to him.

Was the Crucifixion of Jesus carried out against God’s Will and beyond his control? Was God watching his Son being crucified and saying “oh those evil humans, I wish there was something I could do but they’re just not in my control… Oh well…”

If things happen on Earth without the oversight of God, then God is not Sovereign.

If God is not Sovereign, he is impotent…

If God is impotent, he’s not god.

Why are people mean then? This is part of Christianity I don’t understand and honestly don’t like. What’s the point of freewill anyways? Isn’t that like fate or destiny if God is automatically in control? Why does God allow suffering? If someone chooses to slaughter 6 million Jews, gypsies and homosexuals, that’s just how it was meant to be?

Prophets, Saints, and Theologians have written tens of millions of words answering those questions @Jump4Joy - those are questions which are far beyond the pale of being able to adequately answer via a Catholic social media platform.

If you want, I can link you to some good books which deal with the theological issues of theodicy (the problem of evil), free will, and how those interact with the history of human events.
