If so, which ones?
I have found a lot of helpful information, and from what i can tell the Franciscan Order requires their Lay members to not own or take up arms, while the Carmelite Order from what i can tell asks for a complete separation from the secular world.
The info i have found about the Dominican Order as far as their Lay members only talks about their mission in the world, but does not say if being a cop or soldier would be an occupation excluding one from joining a Lay Order.
I’m sure other First Responders who are not required to use arms in the line of duty are welcome, but I know I am not the only one like myself- as a Veteran of the US Army, as an applicant of Law Enforcement, and generally as one who will defend others with arms if necessary- who understands our role in life, but would like to be more involved in the Church.

Thank you,
Heinz

Hi,

The military orders in the church were made up of soldiers. Protecting the innocent always been upheld as a good thing in the Church. I can’t speak for the Franciscans, but I know that there are no such restraints for members of the Dominican Laity.
