No, guiseppe, numbers do not decide right or wrong, but they might direct one’s prudent course of action.
True enough, and I do appreciate the well-thought-out opinions from all sides. When I fear that I have fallen into mortal sin, I will seek confession at the earliest opportunity. Sometimes, that is the neighborhood diocesan parish who have confessions every morning. As you pointed out, the spiritual direction, in that case, is secondary to the sacramental absolution.

So you have said. And for someone who wil base their reception of sacramental grace on what is posted by us here, it may be of value. However, I would point out that the theological opinions of the priest do not affect the Sacrament. Also, it is possible to receive reconcilliation without seeking spiritual directorship. The two are not the same.

I would hope that no one would roll the dice with their eternal soul based on what either you or I think. If there was even a single chance that I, and the majority of others on this topic, were right, I would think prudence would call for confession to a priest with faculties from the bishop. No, guiseppe, numbers do not decide right or wrong, but they might direct one’s prudent course of action.
What you say is reasonable, and to a certain extent I do agree with you. As GTO pointed out it is also important to me to find a Priest as quickly as possible when I suspect I have committed a mortal sin, in order that God restore me to Grace. And although you are correct making the distinction between the Sacrament and the one conferring the Sacrament, part of Confession most certainly includes direction and advice from the Priest in overcoming the bad, even deadly habits one may fall into, or be in danger of falling into.

That is not to say that I haven’t been very fortunate to run into marvellous Confessors in the NO, because I most certainly have, nor to say that every Confessor of the Society I have is marvellous in the Confessional.

I think that what prudence really calls for is a Catholic Priest who is both compassionate and firm in his direction and advice, as well as well versed in Our Faith and Morals, whether his jurisdiction is supplied by the Bishop, or by the Church Herself, as GTO well pointed out above. The Salvation of our souls is at stake, and for that end, I am most certainly not willing to take a roll of the dice.

On the contrary, rben. maurin accepts that the Priests of the Society do not possess faculties from the present and past 3 Pontiffs of the Church. However, maurin is not as rude as some obviously are, nor as arrogant to publicly presume to kinow the mind of another.

maurin also understands the distinction between what the Church has always taught and has faithfully received from the Apostles as received from Christ Himself, and the contradictions to that Faith which have arisen and have been allowed to be disseminated from the pulpits of thousands of Churches around the world, with impunity, and sometimes even with the support of or silence of the Shepherds of so many Dioceses. The Eternal Church is much larger than any particular Papacy.

Tens of thousands of us who have come to understand this have no other place to turn, and know that jurisdiction is supplied by that same Eternal Church, which of course is much larger than the magisteriums of 4 Papacies.
It’s fine Maurin. You do what you want. I’ve had enough discussion with you to see that you will defend the SSPX even if that means siding with a group that says wonders of how bad the OF is to the point that they term it “sacrilegious” and even prefer the faithful to not go to the OF Mass as they deem it sinful. I will choose Peter and the Church under Christ over some group that in the name of tradition throws everything out disobediently. Let’s not get carried away with tradition to the point we become pharisees about it and remember Our Lord was not too fond of them.

Whether you want to accept it or not the OF has brought people to Christ and that can never be a bad thing. The Church is moving forward and correcting itself so we must work with the Church. As the old saying goes, the wheels of Rome grind slowly but they grind finely. With SP the EF Mass is now slowly growing and available. Why be with a group if this is available in the Church in FULL communion?

I hope you feel better now that you’ve gotten that off your chest rben. I know I feel a lot more secure following all of the teachings of the past hundred Popes, including those of the current Pontiff and his 3 predecessors which are not in opposition to their predecessors. Each and every one.

Peace to you.
