I left it open as it seems there are so many bad guys out there. What I’m looking for are reasons for optimism and not despair.I include all peoples of faith as the good guys and part of the culture of Life,as opposed to our rampant pervasive culture of Death.

Yes, the Bad Guys are constantly spreading their Romish religion, and despite all Our best attempts, the Romish Church shows all signs of being as indestructible as it claims to be. Nothing can stop the Papist Church, I fear, but God’s own Hand…

😉

Was Pilate winning when he washed his hands of Christ?

Were the Pharisees winning when Christ was taken away to be scourged?

Was Satan winning when Christ gasped for breath on the Cross?

The outcome is never in doubt and the only score which matters is that which will be tallied per Matthew 25.

The way out of despair over theodicy is hope that we’ll hear that glorious “Well done, thou good and faithful servant” and faith that Christ did not suffer in vain.

Thanks for the reminders. Please excuse my ignorance but what is theodicy.;)I tried a dictionary and thesaurus.

I’m sorry—it’s the fancy-schmancy word for “the problem of pain”; that is, why a loving God allows such suffering to go on in the world.

dictionary.reference.com/browse/theodicy

Sometimes I think of the spot Job was in. Job had no way of knowing the suffering God would endure for us and when he finally gives way to indignation in complaining to God one half expects God to reply “Do you have any idea what crucifixion feels like?”

Father Serpa often advises people suffering to go to the Blessed Sacrament and spend an hour reflecting on the Lord’s suffering. I think it’s helpful because it reminds us that our suffering is not purposeless—after all, Christ suffered so much more than we do and so unjustly.

Thanks for the new word. Please excuse me if I I try to insert it into my posts at every possible opportunity in order to firmly lodge it within my lexicon:thumbsup:

The bad guys are not winning. In fact, they were defeated on Calvary. The Good Guy has already won the victory over Satan and his minions.

Peace,
Linda

Well, let’s just put it this way. Right now, it seems like the Battle of the Bulge, with the enemy trying one final major battle to stave off defeat, even though the enemy’s defeat is inevitable.

For the moment but the atheists are coming on strong.
Given the track record of atheists in power in the 20th century I’d have to question the color of the cowboy hat you’ve assigned them.

I’ll trade you one Alexander VI for a Pol Pot, Josef Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Mao Tse-Tung, or the like any day.

Hey,I didn’t necessarily include ALL athiests in my definition of bad guys only those with malicious hearts.Athiests are some of the most faith filled people I know. You have to have an inordinate amount of faith to be athiest. You know Cerad-the Anything But God Faith.😃

I don’t believe that they are winning. There is always trouble and suffering in the “world”. Go out and look at the world through your own eyes though. Go out and watch as a person opens a door for you, or the smile on peoples faces as the meet your eyes because you are smiling, your children, your family, your friends, even the people here all good people. Go to habitat for humanity or hospice, you’ll meet many good people. There are very few bad people in my life.
