Are the benefits conferred by the Rosary only granted when in a State of Grace?

That would mean that people not in a state of grace should forget about praying.

Everyone can and should pray. God hears & uses our prayer as He sees best for our souls.

I know little my friend, so that’s why I must ask these things! The reason why I asked is because I’m doing a Rosary each night with intentions for the Church and the world, as well as another one for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, which usually involves the Sorrowful Mysteries. So since I find myself so susceptible to sin, I was wondering whether or not my recitations were having any effect due to being in a state of mortal sin.

Well, if God didn’t hear the prayers of sinners, heaven would be a very empty place.
Resolve to abandon those habitual sins, go to confession and Keep praying!
Ask Padre Pio to intercede for you as well.

Maybe it’s that God grants all the benefits, or gifts, available, but it is in a state of grace when we avail ourselves of them. God provides–it is in grace that we accept.

We don’t want sinners (everyone) to stop praying, and we also want people to strive to achieve a state of grace. It has to be more than, “I said the words. Where’s my reward?” Which is what some popular faith leaders would have us do.

(Which is not to say that either Austere or Pianistclare implied that. )

If anything, there may be even more graces given to the person in mortal sin, who prays the Rosary, than someone in a state of grace praying the rosary. Mary is titled the “Refuge of Sinners”, and there are many accounts the saints give about people living in sin who were converted from starting to pray the rosary. The more we have sinned in the past, the more Mary wants to save us from our place.
You can pray the rosary for the intentions of getting back into a state of grace. The daily rosary is commonly attested to decrease vice (which is one of the promises), especially habits of sins against Faith and purity.

Although being in a state of grace is the biggest part when praying, praying the rosary for the intentions of going to confession will grant you the grace of going to confession. Getting back into a state of grace is a much greater answer to prayer than a great increase in holiness. So, although one’s prayers may be a lot less efficacious when not in a state of grace, Mary wants to help sinners more than holy people

I can testify to this. Without even knowing it, I realized that once I started praying the rosary more frequently, (and done fervently. Half-praying it didn’t work… I wonder why lol) that I committed sins less.

I saw a great quote on twitter the other day:

***“One cannot continue to sin and continue to pray the rosary. He will either give up sin, or he will give up the Rosary”

The Blessed Mother is amazing … over the last few weeks I have gone to her and kept at the rosary, and I am finding it easier and easier to stay away from sin … before I did that I was having a very tough time of it.

It depends on what you mean by “benefits.”

Meritorious interior growth presupposes the state of grace. Any attempt to advance in one’s relationship with God while in mortal sin is futile, except in that which is ordered to reconciliation. And note that such reconciliation may be done in a way that one returns to a state of less merit, the same merit, or more merit, depending on the dispositions and resolutions during the act of contrition, which are the fruit of prayer.

The state of grace is one with charity. Charity makes us a friend of God. If one is not in the state of grace, he is not a friend of God. Intercession seems an odd thing to do with an enemy who is an enemy precisely because we have made him one.

Perhaps God “answers” the prayers of those in mortal sin occasionally, but it does not win merit for the one praying. He must first be reconciled with God.
