Are the demons allowed to bring up your past sins when they tempt you?

I read that a demon cannot mention any confessed sins during an exorcism so when they tempt us in everyday life are they allowed or able to use our past sins to either tempt us more or make us feel ashamed?

If you gained a plenary indulgence would this change anything from their point of view, would you seem like somebody they had never met?

Thanks.

I thought demons could bring up any sins, confessed or not, in an exorcism.

Demonology is a very recondite subject, and I seriously doubt that anybody here is in a position to know much about it.

St. Anthony the Abbot advised people not to pay attention to anything that demons say.

Maybe they bluff us into thinking they know more than they do.

Well, everyone reads/listens to ‘The Screwtape Letters’ (apart from me), with the thinking that it is okay to do so.

Demons can use sins, present or past - IMHO.

They can make genius-level predictions.

I would actually be fearful of even thinking about what demons would use against me…I just pray they stay away !

What I have found in my experience is that when demons/satan are harassing you they will latch onto one of your God-given traits or talents and try to demonstrate how that trait/talent makes you a bad person. Really its not so much as your past sins but your past good works or deeds that demons will drudge up and try to convince you that they mean nothing.

The devil doesn’t need to convince us to sin (we do that readily) he needs to convince us that we should stop doing good in this life and that God hates all our characteristics that he gave to us. That’s a harder task, and draws us farther away from God, which is the end goal for satan.

I would not be surprised (of course I have no way of knowing for sure) that the devil and all his minions are using my past sins to try to drag me to despair.

While all of what you said could be true, satan does most certainly try and draw people into all kinds of sin, and then tries to make people feel unforgivable, afterwards.

we use our old sins on ourselves so do demons really need to? they probably have plenty of ammo with our current sins to do a world of hurt anyway. speaking for myself of course

Sure they can, but you know in faith and God’s love that you are forgiven and those sins cannot be used against you.

It doesn’t profit anyone to be “wondering” about the demonic on any level.
So much more spiritual material to think about, pray over, and meditate on.

Don’t crack the door open to him. Ever. At all. Not even the slightest bit.

Very strange comment.
No it’s not. You just like to come at me.
I don’t give satan any face time, nor do I think of him, or believe that he has any place in my spiritual life whatsoever.

Maybe you think it’s wise, but I certainly dont.
The fact that you say that to me is a strange thing.

I’m out.

What is strange about it?
Considering that we are meant to know about our enemy, it was a strange comment to make. However, Clare has since pointed out that this is her understanding, and prefers to keep things that way.

But you’re starting with a faulty premise right off the bat. Why do you say we are meant to know our enemy? We’re actually meant to know our Creator and Redeemer. Any human desire to “know” the devil or know about him is certainly very delightful to the devil.
