Are the demons allowed to bring up your past sins when they tempt you?

But you’re starting with a faulty premise right off the bat. Why do you say we are meant to know our enemy? We’re actually meant to know our Creator and Redeemer. Any human desire to “know” the devil or know about him is certainly very delightful to the devil.
So, you have never heard of Spiritual Warfare.

If a person does not know of the devil, then they do not know everything that God did for them, in dying for their sins (I did not say that first).

I read that a demon cannot mention any confessed sins during an exorcism so when they tempt us in everyday life are they allowed or able to use our past sins to either tempt us more or make us feel ashamed?

If you gained a plenary indulgence would this change anything from their point of view, would you seem like somebody they had never met?

Thanks.
Is there a rule book somewhere?

It doesn’t profit anyone to be “wondering” about the demonic on any level.
So much more spiritual material to think about, pray over, and meditate on.

Don’t crack the door open to him. Ever. At all. Not even the slightest bit.
I agree, give him no power in your life.

Sure they can, but you know in faith and God’s love that you are forgiven and those sins cannot be used against you.
^This, entirely 100%

Also, this is a good reason to propel yourself into (not scrupulosity) but making sure that you are in line with God in all that you do, to the best of your ability. (My upmost for His Highest). I think the Scripture retorts something along the lines make sure they have nothing to pin on you.

If you confessed and are truly sorry for what you did, meaning, you own up to your sins but make amends and don’t do it again, then they still cannot touch you. God will still protect you. Take refuge in God.

Will you explain what you mean by this?
I listened to The Screwtape Letters, once, on YouTube, read by someone well-known, and whilst I thought that it was clever, in that one has to turn on its head all the ‘advice’, there were one or two things that I thought were incorrect.

C.S Lewis, after he had finished this work, said he would never embark upon doing such a work again, and I think there were reasons as to why. I don’t think it was sensible to do this - to try and read the mind of Satan. And it sounds as if he didn’t find it pleasant. He never actually converted to Catholicism, as far as I know. And to embark upon demonology without partaking of all Christian elements of the faith, first, I would think, is not at all sensible.

Not strange at all.
So, are you out to just argue, or do you have a constructive opinion on the matter.

As far as I know, EVERY Catholic is meant to discern the Spirits. If you don’t believe me, then type ‘discernment of spirits’ into Google, and see what you come up with.

I am allowed to express my opinion, and I do not have to justify it to you.

'VI. “And Lead Us not into Temptation”

2847 The Holy Spirit makes us discern between trials, which are necessary for the growth of the inner man,152 and temptation, which leads to sin and death.153 We must also discern between being tempted and consenting to temptation. Finally, discernment unmasks the lie of temptation, whose object appears to be good, a “delight to the eyes” and desirable,154 when in reality its fruit is death. '*

There is probably more:

It is a good thing to understand one’s enemy.
I certainly agree with you.

However, I think that perhaps there may be a misunderstanding of what is meant here.

What I mean is, is that perhaps that some are misunderstanding your meaning.

When we know more about what we’re dealing with, then we can understand it better. That is how I see it, too. 🙂

It’s not like we’re trying to “delight Satan,” by trying to have an understanding of his ways.

When you try and have an understanding of how he can tempt you, then you know what you’re up against, and you can see where he might be trying to influence you in your life. I like to be informed in all ways.

Of course my focus is on our Lord and His Heavenly Kingdom. But when temptations come about, I also like to know what’s going on as well.

Exactamundo!

Holy Father, Pope Francis says, dont dialogue with the devil.

We dont need to know anymore then the Sacraments, pray and our faith opens the only door we need to open, the door home to Heaven.

We dont need to understand evil. We already know. Look around you.
We have a choice, say yes or no to mortal sin. Just say no. We dont have to dialogue with evil, about temptation. Just say no.
If we said yes, just go to Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconcilliation.

Its pretty simple.

Pianistclare and Irishmom are right.

Listen to them and to our Holy Father

I think that sometimes people may misunderstand what others write here, or that they actually don’t take the time to try and understand what somebody else has actually written when it may come to something that’s posted.

Who has said anything about “dialoguing with the devil?”

As I said in my last post, it helps to know what you’re up against in life.

For myself, I choose to live a life where my eyes are wide open, and where I’m personally informed about certain subjects. That’s what I personally choose to do for myself.

But, that’s all that I’m going to say again on this subject.

God bless you. 🙂

May God keep you on your journey home.

Here is a good exercise, for 24hrs write down anything in your life, entering into your life that does not conform to Jesus.
Even down to seemingly trivial things like a tv reality cooking show with Marco called ‘hells kitchen’ - the title innoculous or not?

Anytime we start thinking about evil, about how evil can get to us, about using a plenary indulgence to ward off the workings of evil,
we are dialoguing with the devil.

Holy Father Pope Francis says, just say begone satan, and get on with it.

Jesus tells us to be afraid only of God. Not to be afraid of anything else.

I was in the supermarket and two guys were standing looking at the chocolate. One obviously couldnt eat chocolate but wanted to. The other said

Begone satan.

They both laughed and walked off without chocolate.
