Are the JWs false prophets?

I think we posted so much evidence as to their false prophecies and from their own publications that poor Dan could not repute it.

Now we need somebody that knows their Greek to meet him in “Scriptures”.

Not only are the “false prophets” (obviously), but they are selfish, as well.

JW’s refuse to participate in celebrations like birthday parties (never buy presents)…and even Christmas!! (no presents).

They say it’s so they can give more time to God. Sure thing. It’s really 'cause they don’t want to spend any cash on anyone but themselves. LOL.

I am the OP and I wanted to thank everyone for their (name removed by moderator)ut on this forum. The truth is that I wanted to see the JWs back up their claims of prophecy but it didn’t happen. As a matter of fact, I received more information on the JWs beliefs and actual writings from my Catholic brothers rather than from the JW source. I shouldn’t be surprised since we, as Catholics, are forced to defend our faith (apologetics) every day from attacks of all different Christian and non-Christian denominations, which forces us to learn their beliefs sometimes better then they learned themselves. This reinforces my constant belief that Christ indeed never left His Church (St. Matthew 28:20) nor did He allow the gates of Hades to prevail against Her (St. Matthew 16:18).

–Jesus (God) founded the Catholic Church.

It’s his until the end of time.

He decided the beginning, and he’ll decide the end.

Any mere mortal can contrive some ‘religion’. That’s easy. You can get preacher certificates via email.

The True Church is here for ever and ever.

Just keep on keepin’ an eye out for “false prophets”, as God warned us. They buzz around on a yearly basis.

They’re easy to spot…

Hi, Erik. I think part of the problem, that I’ve noticed with my friends who are JW’s, is that they are not encouraged to really know their faith. And if they do try, well, they don’t find much that they can really work with. It doesn’t seem to lend itself to deep thinking, not much substance to really sink your teeth into, as it were. That’s one thing I love about the CC. So much substance! Nothing compares, nothing. And I’m not saying this to brag or anything except to speak the truth as I have come to know it. And, believe me, I’ve tried a lot of religions and philosophies on for size. And I’ve accepted some of them temporarily…until I could find something higher. But when I found the Church (or the Church found me), I knew this was it. I didn’t like the idea at the time, but there it was. The Truth. And I knew I had to accept it. Praise God, I did. And I love it!

Hi Disciple96

You’re right. The only Jehova’s witness here could not defend the prophecies made by his church, he could only attack the Catholic Church. My guess is, as you said, his beliefs had no substance. I also believe the CC is all about substance. I was raised in the Catholic faith, and strayed from it for several years. At some point I was challenged by a sola fide believer and began looking at just what is it that I believe and why. I quickly found the substance I needed to fulfill my faith within the CC and saw the lack of substance from the sola fide side. This lack of substance seems prevalent among many who disagree with the beliefs of the CC, though some eventually figure it out and end up coming home. Let’s hope the Jehova’s witness who was on this thread, figures that out and comes home where everyone belongs. 👍

I’m glad you came back. And that you were called back. God is good! And I would like to say in response to some posts above here that, although the Church on earth does await and look forward to the Second Coming of our Lord, we also know that He is here, dwelling among us now in all the tabernacles in all the Catholic churches all over the world. We encounter every Sunday at Mass and during the week at Daily Mass. And every time we make a Holy Hour in adoration of our King. In that sense, we aren’t waiting for His return because, in that sense, He never left! But we are awaiting His return in His glorified physical body, that’s true.

Just wanted to say that. Thought it needed to be said. In case no one else mentioned it above. I didn’t see it anyway. Peace! 🙂

Just to add my 2d (I’m new on the boards, and haven’t read the whole thread…sorry). In case this hasn’t been posted - Jehovah’s Witnesses are actively discouraged from studying the Bible alone! (recent WT article). The Watchtower is afraid of the Rank and File comparing the New World Translation to the original manuscripts.

Regarding 1914. Russell’s obsession with pyramids seems the only basis for this ‘date’ (which was changed from 1874 to 1914 in a later edition of his book, ‘The Golden Age’). Obviously, to make these ‘dates’ appear Biblical the Watchtower has applied bad maths and changed historical dates to fit their dogma. If you ask a JW to show you how he arrives at ‘1914’, he won’t be able to tell you offhand, yet this date is a core belief. (I can supply references to any of the above)
