The keys are mentioned in verse 22, then it goes on about the Peg and the sure fit and the weight of the father’s house in verses 23 and 24. All this is fine and good up to this point. But then Verse 25 seems to undue everything:
25: In that day, says the LORD of hosts, the peg that was fastened in a sure place will give way; and it will be cut down and fall, and the burden that was upon it will be cut off, for the LORD has spoken."
What does this mean for the Papacy ? Will this happen ?
What kind of Catholic commentary is out there on this verse. The Douay Rheims Haydock commentary says “Shebna shall lose all his employments and ruin others”. Shebna is mentioned earlier in verse 15. But Shebna is the one who had lost the keys to Eliacum and Eliacum was the one to have the Peg with the sure fit.
So if verse 22 is for the Papacy, is not verse 25 as well ?
