Are the majority of Eastern Orthodox Americans politically to the left or to the right?

I know two EO people. One is an immigrant from Eritrea, she leans left I think. She posted that she voted for Obama. The other is an older convert, he’s conservative. He’s a little fanatical about his faith.
Voting for one individual or another doesn’t really tell the whole story. She may have reasons unrelated to social issues for voting for him.

Just coming to mind, one place where Orthodox tend to be “left” is our stance on the death penalty - generally speaking we are against it both on our belief in the sanctity of life (which also informs the general stance on abortion), and our belief that judgement is God’s alone.

She and the vice president, along with Kathleen Sebelius (I think that’s how her name is spelt) are something “special”. Of all the faiths, though, I think it is Judaism that is most liberal.
Actually I think politicians are “special”. When you said that our own Paul Martin (Catholic) came to mind, followed soon after by Michael Ignatieff (nominal Orthodox).
Politicians of the left seem to like the idea that you can compartmentalize belief, believe that something is wrong in one context but fine in another.

I am not American but I am situated in a non Orthodox country (new Zealand) so I think its appropiate for me to answer. I would place myself firmly on the right of things in terms of morality and economics.

Depends on the topic but I consider myself centrist on the economy and to the right on most social issues.

And I would agree. To me the only reason to vote for the right would be abortion and gay ‘marriage’.

I would question the sanity of anyone who is disabled or poor voting right for any other reasons.

I am disabled permently, can’t work cannot even drive dress and groom myself and can barely walk.
