Dear all,
I just wanted to point out that like the Armenian Church, the Assyrian Church also does a public prayer of absolution. Having been really comfortable in that, I can honestly say that I think I too lament the lack of practice of personal confession.
Common-sense wise… A doctor, he must be able to diagnose before prescribing medicine. And it is usually more effective to go to one and tell one your symptoms and have him diagnose, then for us to just guess what we need.
Also, from personal experience, it gets easier to not to take a problem seriously if you don’t have to expose it to others.
That all being said, it does not take away from the validity of general absolution, but it is a matter of what is best for a person.
In Him,
Anthony
