Are the saints living in heaven?

As an newbie apologist, I got into a private debate with a baptist church follower. He told me that Catholics pray/talk to the dead and the practice is an abomination similar to Saul’s praying to the dead and God punished him. My answer was “Are you telling me that Jesus ought to be punished for talking with Moses and Elijah?, anyways I believe that the saints are living in heaven (eternal life as in John 3:15-16) and thus we are not talking to the dead”.
