Are the visionaries in Medjugorje real?

Fr. Zovko, the parish priest, had been interviewing the young adults and recording them. On June 30, he asked how much longer this would be going on. Mirjana replied, “Something tells me, two or three more days.” This information can be found in Donal Conley’s book Medjugorje Revisited, a book which is an extensive argument against the “apparitions” validity.

“Something tells me” does not imply “The apparition told us.”

The problem is that there are approved apparitions which have continued on a daily basis, such as Our Lady of the Rosary of San Nicolas. I don’t know how many messages there are, however, in that example, or how many of them are approved.

But is it possible that Medjugorje could be unique in the number of its messages and yet be a valid apparition? Yes.

I think the best option is just to wait for the Vatican to make its ruling, while, in the meantime, understanding what the current position is: non constat de supernaturalitate/it is not certain or beyond doubt to be of supernatural origin.

I made a mistake. Although it is true that Mirjana said this, I discovered more information:

Fr Zovkoalso asked Mirjanaif she had said anything to the “Gospa.”*She responded that she had, asking her “how many days she is going to remain with us. Exactly how many days she will remain with us. She said: “Three days.’ … that means until Friday.”

This means that Simcha Fisher was correct: in the earliest days of the alleged apparition, it was claimed that it would only be appearing for “three more days.”

I don’t think the question of apparition or no apparition brings about that sort of disobedience. It is ‘my will vs. thy will’. The same disorder that had disciples of Jesus no longer follow Him after His Bread of Life discourse.

Also, my fear. Especially if it is this pope who says it, because many of them already are questioning him.

Biggest red flag for me is when the people who believe get angry if you don’t believe or question. Some of them will shun you, because you are an unbeliever. I’m living in the midst of many people who have gone there multiple times and have seen this happening. And once again, it isn’t necessary that we believe in any of the apparitions.

To give an example, a women’s group in our area had a talk about apparitions and they spent 5 minutes on Fatima and about an hour on Medjugorje and Garabundal (another problematic apparition). They hang on every word of these messages. In saying that, these people mean well and love God very much. I “wrestled with an angel” for about 2 years over Medjugorje, thinking I HAD to know the truth, and decided to just let it go, because doing so, wouldn’t hurt my relationship with Christ or his mother, but struggling with it, did.

No, the alleged apparitions are not approved. The Church is discouraging organized devotion to these seers.

I would never assume that the seers are guilty of any deliberate deceit. They may honestly believe that they are seeing supernatural visions.

Remember that our faith is in the teachings of Christ, not in any latter visions.

The official Church decision on Medjugorie is that there is no evidence of any supernatural happenings there.
The local Bishops are the competent Church authority and three Commissions all declared the same.
They also said the visionaries are fakes.
Local priests who continue to perpetuate the alleged apparitions as true have had their faculties suspended.
Due to the controversy among Catholics (guess who divides the faithful - Satan!) the local Bishops asked the CDF to investigate further.
The first act of the CDF was to suspend another local priest.
Rome has also forbidden any priests to lead pilgrimages to Medjugorie.
Rome has also forbidden parishes globally to allow any “visonaries” to hold meetings about Medjugorie on Church property.
Pope Benedict, while still Cardinal Ratzinger, called Medjugorie a hoax.

In short, the valid and in force Church position is that there is no evidence of any supernatural happenings there and unless the CDF overturns that decision (which is very unlikely) that decision remains.

I am also curious as to what Medjugorie supporters will do when the CDF confirms the existing Church declaration. Will they obey the Church or put themselves into sin by disobeying the Church.

I think he was referring to the inferred opinion which existed behind your “questions”. It’s pretty obvious when someone is asking a leading question (or multiple).

That single “M” word stirs its disciples into a frenzy!

One Medjugorje disciple said to me: “You’re going to have to answer to God for rejecting…(a long list of unapproved or outright condemned phenomena)…”
Some of them might have to answer to God for their gullibility and refusal to use their God-given intellects.

It makes you wonder whether there could have been real apparitions at first and they wanted to continue or Satan or…

I haven’t researched it and don’t know much at all about Medjugorje, but personally I would want to read the theological side of it where certain texts were proven to be theologically in error, or something concrete rather than hearsay, because there was a point that the Holy Office issued a document that forbad the use of “images and writings that promote devotion to Divine Mercy in the forms proposed by Sister Faustina.”

Who we all know now as St Faustina, it was due to an erroneous translation of her diary that was given to the Vatican.

So I think time will tell, if it’s truly from God, it can’t be stopped, but the current turn it has taken with the Vatican doesn’t necessarily mean it’s over either.
