Are the wicked in sheol until judgment day?

From what I understand, before Christ died for our sins and resurrected, both the wicked and righteous went to sheol. After Christ resurrected, all the righteous where taken up with him into heaven, where they wait for their bodily resurrection which will be a shared experience with all the elect. Those wicked still in sheol at the time of the resurrection will be resurrected and face judgment in which most will endure the “second death”.

Could someone clear this up for me please?
 
ALL the wicked in sheol will endure the second death. Purgatory was formed even before Our Lord’s crucifixion.
 
How can people be in hell right now when the judgment has not yet occured? Would they not be in the place of silence (Sheol), where they neither know of God’s greatness nor think anything at all, only dormant souls waiting for the judgment?
 
Sheol IS hell. All the souls there have undergone PERSONAL judgment. The last judgment is a general judgment where they will be cast into the lake of fire, a more painful hell, which death and hell itself will be cast into.

When a person dies their soul is immediately judged and immediately goes to Hell or is saved (either straight to Heaven or more likely Purgatory first). This judgement is called the Particular Judgement.
