Are there any actions that can be done regardless of circumstance?

Basically there are actions you can’t perform given some circumstances but are there some you should perform no matter the circumstances?

I’ve thought about this, and as far as I can tell, circumstance is intrinsic to action. I’m probably wrong. (That’s what I get for serving in the military instead of going to college. 😉

I can’t think of any action which wouldn’t be performed inside of a circumstance. Respiration came to mind, but that action is within the circumstance of the autonomic nervous system operating to maintain life in the body of the system host.
(just having a bit of fun)

Could you expand a little on what you’re getting at? I know one of our crack philosophy buffs here will fix you up if you have a more concrete question.

I guess I was thinking about a negative image (like in a photograph) of the intrinsically evil action -an action that can’t be done no matter the circumstances. Is there an action that is so good that it doesn’t matter what circumstances pertain for you to do it?

Love might be one, but it isn’t I think, so much a concrete action as it is a habit of virtuous actions. And any action can be appropriate or not appropriate according to circumstance (as far as we know), so Love itself is different in practice according to different circumstances -the man who seems severe and the man who seems amiable are both being charitable.

Prayer might be one, but does that mean we should drop everything and always pray?
That might be one way to answer the question -anything that is so good you should do it no matter what, then you should do it all the time since to not to it would be to let some matter impede you. Finally then you should always do that and not something else which is contradictory since everyone thinks that they should do other stuff -there are multiple priorities in life.
