How has Thomism Changed since Aquinas. Do you know of any recent (nothing later then the year 2000) books that not only talks about Thomism, but actually does philosophy in light of other philosophies that are on the scene at the moment? If not books, then perhaps you know of some good websites, on which trained philosophers give their opinion?

In my opinion Jacques Maritain is the greatest of modern Thomist philosophers*. *His major work is The Degrees of Knowledge (1937). He and his wife were converts from atheism who had been on the point of committing suicide together when they came under the influence of Leon Bloy (qv). It is fascinating and illuminating to read any online account of their lives. I have been greatly influenced by his ideas…

I know of Jacques Maritain, and i have many of his books in pdf format. I haven’t got around to reading all of them, although i would like to read the account of their lives. It feels inspiring.

Your post was almost perfect. However, “1937” is way before the year “2000”.🙂

I took “nothing later than 2000” to mean “nothing after 2000”! 🙂

Take a look at Fergus Kerr’s After Aquinas: Versions of Thomism (2002–Wiloey/Blackwell). Also, check out the works of Etienne Gilson, one of the great 20th century Thomist.

Yes i have Fergus kerrs book.
I haven’t read it yet though. Etienne Gilson sounds interesting. Thank for the help

The more recent strains of Thomism are generally branded “neoscholasticism.” You might try googling that term. Thomism is alive and well in more conservative moral theology, for example. Many would describe John Paul II as a neoscholastic or neothomist.

By the way, Etienne Gilson is outstanding.
