Are there any do's or don'ts regarding Rosary prayer intentions?

I read some places you should pray for forgiveness of particular sins you have committed, other places say you should offer for others only?

Is there a right/wrong intention?

(Sad thing is, I have read St. Louis de Montfort’s (sp?) book, I just can’t remember what he said…)😦

I have no idea, being an RCIA myself. I assume wishing harm on others is a HUGE no-no :tsktsk:

As an AA member I can always fall back on “asking only for knowledge of God’s will for us, and the power to carry it out.”

But for the moment, I ask that my intentions, and any graces and merits received by my prayers go The Church Suffering. I look forward to others’ answers on this topic…:yup:

Well, look at the prime example of prayer Jesus has left us, the Our Father … it starts with praise of God, then moves on to a petition that we and all around us conform ourselves to God’s will. Then we ask for particular needs and for forgiveness for our failings, then for generalised guidance and mercy. In that order.

Take this as a model and you won’t go wrong 👍

Thanks Lily…I usually express ‘what I’m offering up this Rosary for’ before I begin the creed. It has been so helpful for me, in staying focused on the words of the Rosary, instead of focusing on if I left a particular person out or not. I make sure I express my offerings before the Rosary…and thank Mary for praying for me, and with me. It has changed my life, the daily Rosary!!!:clapping:

you can’t go wrong offering up your rosary for the intentions prescribed by the Holy Father this month. Jesus tells us clearly to ask the Father for every good thing so it is certainly not wrong to ask for yourself, either.

Do not forget to pray for the Souls in Purgatory.
I do that all the time. I am not sure what it may or may not mean, but when I first read that souls in Purgatory can be freed by prayers, something inside me noted “THAT is your assignment.” Of course, not being confirmed and all that, I have no idea if any of my prayers are doing the slightest bit of good in helping The Church Suffering, but at least I am getting practice in, and laying the groundwork

Sounds like it is time to read it again.

I’m no expert. When I pray the Rosary, I just try to pray the Rosary (often in addition to what ever else I’m doing at the same time).

I pray for forgiveness in the Lord’s prayer “forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us”. And really, I sometimes find it difficult to forgive others. Praying the Lord’s Prayer is important for me because there is so much “attitude adjustment” that still needs to happen inside my head.

As I mention elsewhere, in my praying I just focus on praying the Rosary. I may start off (before the Rosary) praying my intentions, but more commonly I add the intentions at the end of praying the Rosary. Typically, I pray at least an Our Father and a Hail Mary for each intention that I want to add.

Yesterday, a man shot and killed some innocent Amish schoolchildren in a one-room schoolhouse in Pennsylvania.

Today, my thoughts were interrupted while I was praying the Rosary. Sometimes such as this, I think it is best to break away from praying the Rosary, and freely pray regarding the weighty matter that is on your mind, and then to continue praying the Rosary (from the same place).
